    Is This A Mopar Switch?

If spring loaded and rests in the center and can be moved both front and back it is a convertible top switch for cars with the rallye dash option. If it just switches without returning to center, then rear defrost for rallye dash option. The standard dash has a place for a rocker switch for...

Trouble picking off-the-shelf torque converter for street SB/727

I did a quick search for converter rebuilders in your area, and looks like there is a place called Oregon Torque Converter (541)741-0859 Since your looking for close to factory high stall, they might be able to make you a semi-custom one for near the cost of a factory rebuilt one. Some places...

    cam selection 505 stroker build

Why a hydraulic roller? I went that route on the Coronets 505" stealth headed engine, and it seems to be just as much work/ adjusting as a solid roller. When i built the Trick Flow 240 505" stroker, I went back to a solid roller cam. The duration of the Comp cam seems about right for a...

400 engine (512 stroker) replacing 440 and 4 speed. Please educate me

The 4.25" stroker crank for the 440 I have from 440 source was drilled for the pilot bearing, but not finished to size. The hole needed to be reamed to size for the pilot bearing to press-in correctly. When I changed from the 833 4-speed to the 5-speed OD transmission, the transmission kit came...

Valve cover gaskets 440 cork or rubber or something else?

The Blue Moroso valve cover gaskets are pretty good, and can be re-used as noted. The trick with the cork gaskets is to not overtighten them. use some blue loctite on the valve cover bolts to keep them from loosining, and use an inch-pound torque wrench to tighten them to factory spec. I'd...

    To 512 or not

the 512 kits are pretty easy to do, just get the correct pistons for the compression ratio you want (will depend on cylinder head volumes too.)

    489 Case information please.

I have some pictures, but my phone won't connect to my computer, likely have a charging only USB cable. I E-mailed myself some of the photos, but haven't got them yet. Guess I will have to get a good USB cable. The photos have a 1971 "489" case next to the aftermarket "489" case. The...

    489 Case information please.

Note that the torsen and helical diffs are slightly different designs, but operate the same basic way. My understanding is the Torque Bias Ratios can range from 3:1 (will unlock fairly easy) up to 5:1 (one tire would have to only have 1/5 the traction of the other tire before the diff unlocks.)...

    489 Case information please.

Bump this so I remember to check the parts this weekend. Over the last year I bought a Richmond 3.55:1 gear set from Summit, and a rebuild/Install kit with solid spacer from Dr. Diff. I was planning to put it in my old 3.23:1 sure-grip 489 case. The gears were on back order for several months...

Mopar Big Block High Volume Oil Pump Bolt Size

I see the double washers on those 3" bolts :) I always trial fit the bolts without the washers. If the bolt bottoms out you can see/measure how much it should be shortened, or how thick of a washer you will need.

Mopar Big Block High Volume Oil Pump Bolt Size

I usually have to trim down the three 3" bolts so they don't bottom out in the block holes.

1971 Charger new shock absorber suggestions

These are some of the shocks I have on my cars: Seems the price of shocks has really gotten expensive, but I bought the KYBs 30 years ago for about $100 for set of all 4 shocks, and the Bilstein shocks maybe 10 years ago for about $400 set of 4. I just bought the Viking shocks recently, so just...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

As a hobby, I find this interesting. I am using the 516 head flow numbers from Stan Weisses chart, but there is only one entry for a stock 516 head, so I'm curious how accurate the flow data is. I actually have a set of rebuilt stock 516 heads that I am now thinking about having them flowed to...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

This morning, I plugged in the valve sizes and flow numbers (as advertised [email protected]") for the Edelbrock RPM head. I left the compression ratio the same at 9.5:1, and everything else the same too with the SEH1620 cam. Power from 1000 to 2000 RPM about the same, even at 2500 RPM the Edelbrock was...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

I checked the numbers, and then ran some simulations in Dynomation 6 Pro-Tools, with a few different cams and LSA's. Using the iterator, looking for maximum area under the torque curve to 4000 the sim liked the narrow LSA, usually around 104 to 105, installed around 100, with durations around...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

That is alot of variance in valve stem height. The machine shop should fix that. They will usually take some metal off the valve valve stem tips to get them the correct height than sink the valve further into the cylinder head, so all the springs would need to be shimmed to the correct install...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

The problem is there is no "perfect" cam. Everything is a compromise, and how you prioritize what is important to you. I looked at the head flow numbers on Stan Weiss' chart, and stock, they don't look good. Stan Weiss' - Cylinder Head Flow Data at 28 Inches of Water -- DFW / FLW Flow Files...

    Which Camshaft For This Brute?

Geoff, I apologize. I was thinking of the over cammed narrow LSA engines I had. Reducing the duration to reduce the overlap makes sense. Hot rod terminology can get confusing. "Low End Power" to a racer or dyno operator is 3,000 RPM, and about 1500 RPM if your talking 4x4s and street cars.
