It seems like 3" is the standard height for most air cleaners. There is some kind of "calculator" on the K&S site that says what horsepower they are good for, plenty in most cases.
The type of carburetor will also make a difference in the air cleaner base type. I think there is another thread...
How old is the gas? Did the car sit for a long time with the ethanol in the carburetor? If it is old gas and it sat, the carb may be all full of gooey stuff, or the gas is bad.
My '68 R/T came with the return line. It is an early St. Louis car. This is before I changed the fuel pump, but it shows the vapor seperator and the return line. The chrome fuel pump didn't work for very long long. The last picture shows the Oreillys fuel pump that I put in recently. I was hung...
I used the one specified by Oreillys with the 5/16" fuel inlet line on my '68 R/T, works great. Don't forget the Vapor separator and the 1/4" return line.
Page 8 of this thread already and now we are circling back and starting over. Still nothing has changed on the car. Chevy, Dodge, Ford, etc...they all basically work the same. Good luck with it. The car has potential, but somebody needs to make it happen. No offense to anyone.
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve is the one on the drivers side valve cover in you picture. It kind of seams to me that it should be on the passenger side valve cover. You might need to change sides of your valve covers. Im not sure if it matters which side it is on.
Tell the guy that you are paying what to do. The people on this forum have years of experience on these cars. That is why you came on here and asked them what they think. Many have told you what is going to fix your car. Eldubb, pnora, Kern dog, Remcharger and a few others all gave great...
Looks and sounds like it needs a basic tune up. Plugs, distributor cap, rotor and carb clean/rebuild. Basic stuff. What part did the mechanic work on? It doesn't seem like anything. Sounds like that mechanic is going to take you for a ride, since you have no basic knowledge of how to make an...
Luck shouldn't be a factor in working on a car. Science is a better method. Have the carter rebuilt, or do it yourself, its not that difficult. Holley is not going to make anything any better. Nothing against a Holley, I have several, but for "tooling" around town, stick with what the Chrysler...
Now it is getting confusing again. How could the timing be higher at mid RPM than at max RPM? Centrifugal is all in around 3000 and it doesn't go down. It must be the vacuum can pulling it progressively more as RPM increases, then dropping off at WOT. Does manifold vacuum drop after a certain point?
Thank you all for the great info. on this subject. You gave us all alot to think about with the vacuum advance system. I feel like I have a better understanding of how it all works now. I look forward to trying some different things out in the future.
