I think all headers require a little massaging for clearance here and there. 50 year old toys, take a little ingenuity, that's what makes them fun. Lower your expectations and enjoy them for what they are.
Kiwi is right, you need to move the starter over a little bit. Probably have to elongate one or both of the holes. Maybe so you can twist it just enough. Somehow move the drive gear away from the ring gear. I had to lay under my car with good light for several hours of on and off, and die...
How many tools does it take to change a... spark plug? haha Somewhere between 3 and 10 so far... I think that I use a 13/16" wrench, both ends, and a spark plug socket with the wrench on a couple of them... oh yeah a 3/8 ratchet too on #1. Takes the whole tool box.
Always plan on every job being twice as hard as you think it will be on these cars. Be patient and think it out as you go. Go buy the tools that you discover that you will need. Once you get everything going your way, it is rewarding!! Don't give up. Man built it, man can fix it!
I had to elongate the holes. I had to lay under it and see how the gears engaged and adjust accordingly. Mine wouldn't disengage so I had to move it away from the flywheel just enough.
Geoff,
I am not using the Super coil. I had to change the coil out to a low primary resistance coil, as per the instructions that came with the ignition system. I got an Edelbrock one that is "stock", and meets the requirements. I dont recall, off the top of my head, the ratings. Just to...
The paperwork that came with the Hi Rev was very specific to not use the high resistance coil. It gives the numbers. I was bummed to have to take off the Accel Super Coil that I had had on the car for 30 years.
Ground problem. You have to really work the ones in the bumper to make them ground. I think they are two pieces that are pressed together and they lose ground between the two pieces. I think that I had to grab the socket part with pliers and rotate it to break the corrosion loose. Also they have...
Make sure the bulb holder is grounded to the body. You may have to rotate the holder or somehow move it around to make it make contact with the body for ground. it may have paint or corrosion between it and the body. I just went through that.
I saw the ones from Napa and I wasn't sure they would work. I am hoping someone has some that match the originals. Thanks for all the offers, I haven't bought any yet.
I wasn't able to find any, that looked right, on ebay or on Classic. I was hoping that somebody would know who sold them. Or maybe I just wasnt calling them the right thing. Thanks
Does anyone sell these light bulb holders.? Half of mine are broken. They go in the back of the instrument cluster. I'm not even sure what to call them.
