I've run across some really cheap ones that look the part, but don't spring back after you expand them. Unfortunately, you can't tell by looking at them upon purchase, so while price isn't always the final arbiter, I'd avoid the most inexpensive ones.

For me it's not the originality of the core but fitment and quality. Bob will return a piece that will fit and function for the long haul. The aftermarket ones are a crap shoot. yes, some will do just fine - and some won't. But like Dibbons said, changing out the core may not be rocket...

If you have the space for it, keep it. Otherwise, it's not a terribly difficult item to replace should you need another in the future. Hell, I threw one out because I was tired of looking at it. Gauges look nice. :icon_thumleft:
