Incorrect.
B and RB engines both had factory cast iron dual inline quads avail. i.e. 343 h.p. 383 and 385 h.p. 413 in 1962.
Lovely example in post #3 of this thread!
Hence why I built my own relay/timer system to run pump 15 sec on key on (I have 2 AFBs to fill) and to to turn pump off on oil pressure loss.
I never considered an in-tank pump, perhaps I should have. I thought it was more for EFI.
Just so glad vapor lock issue was sorted as my car was at...
Really?! The Wix filter will return to tank (through an in-built restriction) what ever is at the top of the filter, be it liquid fuel, or if fuel vapours are present (that will float above the liquid fuel), then vapours...
Hope it solved any issues you had cudak888.
It solved all my vapor...
Stock location just before carb for Wix filter is best. 1/4" nipple should be at 12 noon postion (as bubbles float) and yes, return line should go back to tank. Many modify their pickup/sender with an extra nipple, some add a nipple into filler neck.
Solved my vapour lock issues 100%.
I modified a stock 5/16" sending unit by adding my own bulkhead fitting made by drilling out a 1/4" stainless steel bolt. Would probably have been easier to solder in a 1/4" splice into the filler neck instead.
IMO, factory didn't do it for a reason. It will never look quite right either. If you want dual quads, the Edelbrock CH28 is better than the factory inline (as well as a half a ton lighter). Even better (in looks too), the weapon of choice is the trusty cross ram!
Like you, I had shocking fuel boiling issues. I tried carb insulators/spacers and insulating the fuel lines all to no avail. I also was sick of dry fuel bowls and hammering my poor starter.
I installed a Carter electric pump just in front of fuel tank and installed a Wix 33040 (or 33041, not...
Surprisingly, it didn't cost much neither. Blasting was $50 and to cad plate all the steel shafts, linkages, screws etc plus lots of other engine bits was $80.
Hi Mate, I did a thread on my dual quad carb restoration here - https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/carter-afb-restoration.55818/
The casting I had wet blasted, came up beautiful -
Edelbrock #9907 is just their factory manufactured #1407, i.e. same carb. Add a #1478 electric choke kit and you are set like a jelly. Nothing wrong with Holleys, but on a stock rebuild like yours, the carb you have is perfect and so easy to tune - though out of the box should be pretty right.
