Brake pedal feel: How do you like it?

My Charger has factory power front disc rear drum and I put a new master along with new rotors and loaded calipers and all new flexible lines. Everything in the rear brakes except the drums which are in good shape. I also replaced the original proportioning valve simply because it had been in...

    Master Cylinder Question

Great job getting that sorted out and having proper brakes. Thanks for the feedback and posting the results as this will help anyone else with these issues that are part of this process.

    Master Cylinder Question

Maybe you can temporarily plumb around the proportioning valve and put a pressure gauge on all 4 corners and see what the master cylinder is doing straight up. If pressure is good then you found the potential problem.. If it’s not right then look at the master cylinder.

    Master Cylinder Question

Just a suggestion, verify that the connections to the proportioning valve are not reversed. The problems you’re describing sound like the valve is holding off the front brakes and applying the rear brakes.

Can anybody explain steering for me?

I’m not sure what you mean by handling like a ‘23 Charger? These are completely different cars in just about every way except the nameplate. There are upgrades that can improve your car’s steering and road manners but likely won’t make it handle like a newer car. What is your goal for this car?

This is really good information and specific details that help make the decision about cost versus benefit. Thank you for your posting pictures.

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

I was referring to the different size pistons in the boosters.

I have no issues with Ford or any other companies suspension. One thing Ford did at least half right was the twin I beam truck suspension. They should have used some of that on their cars….that suspension is pretty stout and I have tried many times to find a weak spot without success. Lol…

I have 2 friends who have used the crown Vic and both have had some serious problems with what is described as flexing or warping and both cars are inop until they plan their next step. One is under a 72 Satellite and the other is under a 75 Monte Carlo that’s been put back together too many...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

The operating pressure along with piston size seems to determine the final output pressure applied at the master cylinder. I think some experiment and appropriate pressure gauge would be a way to figure out how to manipulate the system and determine which booster will work for the car being...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

I think this whole process is moving in the right direction and would be doable for well under $1000.00. You have really helped take some of the mystery out of the booster set up. Thank you for your time and effort to post your information here for anyone else who wants to upgrade their brakes.

OK I will take another bite just because. Modified could be a fancy way of saying that the width between the spindles has been increased which means the track width will be closer to the car being modified. In other words the spindles are still the same. I am not trying to start a fire, but...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

Interesting points about the pressure difference and how the potential output is varied depending on the internal parts and of course the line pressure going in. Thank you for posting this. Answers some questions.

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

I figured you already had been there, I was searching for info and that came up so I poked around. I wouldn’t buy an aftermarket kit anyway because I like the challenges and save some money and do things the way I want and learn along the way.

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

My thinking is looking at the particular master cylinder being matched correctly with the calipers because that is where I have seen the most issues. And then a properly adjusted rear proportioning valve to balance the system. I think at this point I am not too concerned about the booster...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

You may already have this info but I found hydratechbraking.com and browsing through I didn’t see any specific info on the booster in relation to car type or size. Maybe the booster assist is not so much of an issue as having the proper pressure from the pump and making sure the fluid stays...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

I like the compact setup of the hb unit. Certainly takes up less space than a vacuum booster and with a little paint it can blend in. I am going to see if I can find some information on how the pressure is regulated and maybe find out information on the amount of boost in relation to vehicle...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

Looks like we are thinking along the same lines and this hydraulic booster can not be too complicated because it’s hydraulic. I think it’s either control the pressure with an external valve or if there’s a set of washers or something like that that can be changed inside the booster. Similar to...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

Something like that to go on the pressure inlet side between the pump and booster so the pressure can be adjustable. I have not looked up working pressures yet but maybe having working numbers and see what is the difference for different cars and trucks. There must be some formula used to...

    Hydro-boost questions (looking for data)

I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the pressure to the booster maybe similar to a brake proportioning valve?? If so one would theoretically be able to “ tune “ the booster pressure to the weight of the car. It’s all hydraulic pressure. Just some food for thought.
