72 Charger Tail Lamps not Lighting

You’re definitely on the right track and at least the lights are working which means that the issue appears to be getting a solid ground. Once you test everything and it works then you can sort out the wires and move on to the next step. Anything electrical needs a clean power and a clean ground.

72 Charger Tail Lamps not Lighting

This sounds like there’s something wrong in the right side harness. Check the tail light harness and see if there’s a split in the middle that connects both sides. If so separate them and see if the problem is just the right side of the harness. You may have damaged sockets causing grief...

72 Charger Tail Lamps not Lighting

If you have already done this then disregard my suggestion. I haven’t read the entire thread. Carefully check the ground wire in the harness from the sockets to the first connection and wiggle the wires to check for broken wires inside the harness. Find a clean ground inside the trunk near...

Need some suggestions please, hyper spark is not sparking..????

This is my 2nd go round with the hyper spark to have the sniper control timing. I have updated the ecu and hand held with the latest software on a fresh card, set up all the wizard details and there is rpm showing when I try to start it. Still no spark???? Wiring is pretty easy and I have the...

Help with Ralleye dash PC board and fuel gauge

Not sure if this helps but my understanding is the meter match has the voltage regulator built into the unit. So the original one is disconnected from the gauge. I’m still trying to adjust my gauge in my 74 Charger and it’s proving tricky. I have put in an Autometer dash setup so the original...

1971 Dodge Charger Rear Brake Lights Issue

I don’t know if this helps but check the connector in the left kick panel up front and on my 74 Charger there is a connector above the license plate area that connects left and right sides together. Clean and test all the connector points to verify is the power is transmitted through each one.

Time for an upgrade and cleaning up some old wiring issues…..

Dash upgrade is in and speedometer is calibrated and is within 1 mph of the gps. Definitely looks much nicer. I also upgraded the charging cable from the alternator to a single 4 gauge to the battery. The wiper switch was tricky and I had to run a ground wire but everything works great now.

Time for an upgrade and cleaning up some old wiring issues…..

Returned to the dash project today. Put the turn signal and brake and high beam indicators in and bolted the gauges in the panel. I still have lots of wiring in the dash to clean up. l am also going to clean up the engine compartment wiring and relocate some pieces to make it more presentable.

    Rear light thingy?

Looks like the tail lights and the single wire is a ground which is a must. The other grommet leads to side marker light.

    Spark plug choice

Ok I guess I’ll take a dip here. It seems to me that everyone of course has their favorite spark plugs, but those spark plugs are at the receiving end of the ignition system and can only perform to the level of energy provided by the ignition system. Like lots of people here I have had many...

Time for an upgrade and cleaning up some old wiring issues…..

Making progress on this project given that I don’t have a garage big enough to put the car in. I got tired of the cheap imitation starter relays that only seem to work for a very short time so I changed the wiring and put a real 2 post relay in and boy what a difference. It is isolated and the...

Time for an upgrade and cleaning up some old wiring issues…..

I finally got time to get some pictures of my new dash from Autometer. I had ordered this piece last year but the delivery kept going on and on so I canceled the order. This time it was here in 10 days. I hope to start working on the dash this weekend if everything goes well.

    Alternator

I went through some wasted time and money trying to smooth out the original system and the so-called new parts are really iffy at best. I put on a power master 100 amp internal regulated alternator and substantially upgraded the charging wire and eliminated the bulk head connector as well. So...

    Deep into rewiring!

Looks like fun and you will know everything inside and out. Wiring can be challenging and rewarding as well. Watching with great interest and more pictures please. Thank you for letting everyone follow along.

    Blinker staying solid not blinking

I did a complete led x- over on my Charger and tried several led compatible flashers with no joy. Finally found one that works great but you have to reverse the wiring at the flasher. Has worked great for almost 2 years now. Maybe try flipping the wiring .

Anyone use a Ron Francis harness?

I spent considerable time looking at aftermarket wiring for my 74 Charger and finally decided to just build my own as I have addressed most electrical issues and most of the supplies are relatively inexpensive on Amazon. Solder and heat shrink are your best friends along with a decent heat gun...

Loose grounds can cause some strange things to happen.

Great to see your out there feeling better and your car is simply happy to have you back doing what your car was built to do. Simple and so glad you are feeling better.

    Lets discuss headlights

Headlights can be set up pretty much any way you choose when modifying the car. I had rust issues with the tension springs among other issues. I tried several different combinations of led h4 bulbs and various housings and could not get properly aimed. I went to an aftermarket mount and put a...

    No tailights

That looks like a good place to start and see what caused that connector to get hot. Do you have a good digital multimeter?

    No tailights

There’s a ground wire to the body in the trunk just before the harness enters the tail panel, also a connector above the license plate for the right side. Under the left kick panel up front is another connector that runs from the dash for light and fuel gauge as well. IIrc there’s also...
