The factory A/C in my '69 GTX was restored with NOS parts 20 years ago, and converted to R134. I had it recharged last year when it failed to blow cold, problem solved. It still blew ice cold when I started it up a few weeks ago on an unexpected warm day. The factory A/C GTX I owned in the...
I've run factory original radiators, both 22" and 26", as well as original fans, and shrouds for decades, with good results. But I've had to re-core many of them, always cured any overheating.
After owning seven stock GTXs, I concur with all the previous posts. One had an after market overflow tank installed (required by Capitol Raceway back in the day), problem solved. On the others, holding the coolant level down solved the problem.
I went through this with one of my cars. No gauge reading with what appeared to be a new sending unit. I did the ground test, and the gauge and wiring were functional. Put in a new sending unit, which resulted in the gauge moving about a sixteenth of an inch when the car was fully warmed up...
Interesting to see the bumper guards as part of a "protection" package in '68. My current A/C '69 GTX, and a near twin I owned 30 years ago, both came with bumper guards. Both cars had/have the original window sticker, and the bumper guards are a completely separate option, not part of a...
I've owned five 1960s Mopars with factory A/C, and they all had undercoating. The one thing consistent with all of them was they were heavily optioned cars. As expensive as the A/C option was back in the day, the buyers tended to be well heeled. The factory undercoating was marketed as a sound...
The '69 GTX I owned in the 90s was a one owner car with factory air. I never had to recharge it during the eight years I owned it, and it blew as cold as any modern day vehicle I've owned. As KD stated earlier, the factory system has the advantage of the choice between either fresh air or...
My '68 unrestored GTX with original engine, original 22 inch radiator, automatic, no A/C, and 3:23 rear has the same fan, no clutch. I also have the broadcast sheet, and it matches.
Baby Blue is virtually untouched original in the engine compartment, and I also have her broadcast sheet. Factory original direct drive fan with 22 inch radiator, 440 and 727 automatic. My third GTX, with A/C , was also direct drive, even though the A/C cars came standard with clutch fan. A one...
