One of my favorites was a neighbor (we were 16 and 17 then) who was so pleased his well traveled and worn '62 Ford Galaxie sedan finally stopped smoking ... turns out it has run so low on oil, there wasn't enough left to burn! ... that was the end of the motor, and a ride home via a tow truck.
Ben - this is a great site for learning, I have found everyone helpful and if you ask politely and coherently, you will likely get many answers and learn a great deal - I know I have. You are definitly in good company here!
And, if everyone on this site even listed just ONE of their classic...
Like many others, I believe the Mopar 383 is an underrated motor when it comes to its potential for performance. I know we have other threads on FBBO re factory HP manifolds versus headers, but it would nice to see some "factory" builds with the upgrades we all know and love with stock manifolds...
Thank you all for the responses. Regarding my project, as time progresses, the goal is for cruising - street driving only, no more than 400HP/500TQ using as many stock parts as possible. I know the "go to" is aluminum heads, but I like the idea of using 915s with larger valves and some minor...
I am curious about something and I am hoping someone here will be able to educate me.
I have three complete engines, a '67 440, a '68 383, and a '73 400. The 440 is in my car, original bone stock with the 915 non-HP heads - out of an Imperial and surprisingly it runs great on the poor 91 octane...
Given the importance of torque in a street driven car, I too wonder why these factory-spec rebuilds are always a bit low - marketing I guess.
So what is the best way to maintain or improve on the factory HP of a 383 4V yet still add low-end torque -- using the stock HP manifolds?
Cam and...
Maybe I'm missing something here...I'm in the same boat -- no fuel to the carb, pulled the intake line to the (stock) pump and fuel aplenty, so I'm replacing the fuel pump...but $25 for a stock replacement from the local NAPA, not $150?
Proud to say that I have one of the 15,807. I would say the Sport Satellite was more akin to a GTX, obviously without the 440 -- top motor for a Sport Satellite was a 383. Mine came with a 318 2V, but will soon have a 440 4V! Too many people clone or modify their Sport Satellite's into GTX's...
My kit is the earlier version (pre-2.0) The ECU was manufactured 09/21/2012 and the throttle body is definitely NOT the one that comes with the 2.0 kit; it has the red runners on it.
Following this thread with great interest; just picked a "new" (2 - 4 hours run time) FAST EZ EFI system for a beyond ridiculously cheap price from someone who needed "more" for a 550+ HP motor; throttle body, harness, ECU, manual, everything....I eventually want to install it on a 440, so...
OK - so I took another look at it:
It doesn't have a raised pad for the VIN, so it's pre-68
It has a slip yoke (the one that came with the driveshaft from the '67 440 Imperial 727 A/T fits like a glove
It has the long tail shaft with shifter pad close to case, so it's a B Body.
I am attaching a...
Once again I turn to those of you who know a lot more about these things then I do.
I have a Bellhousing with a PN of 2468372 which i understand is for a 1965/1966 BB, per Roseville Moparts. I acquired this with an A833 that has the console (dog leg?) shifter and linkage.
The following...
Well, I don't live in SF to be sure but I grew up in the Bay Area and am familiar with driving around SF with a clutch - -not all fun on some of those hills!
Just wondering if anyone has run a 2.94 rear gear in a 4 speed B-body? From what I can see in the factory literature, you couldn't order a 4-speed in 1969 in anything lower than a 3.23, i.e., that 2.76s and 2.94 all required automatics.
I think this may have have something to do with...
Well, I measured the length and width of the driver's seat track tonight in the Sport Satellite, and will compare it to the Seat track in the Imperial tomorrow; may be close, may not....we'll see. I'm more interested in the 440 sitting in the Imperial's engine bay...
I was wondering whether anyone has tried to put power seats in a 1969 B-Body? I don't think they were a factory option, at least my original sales brochure doesn't show them as such.
I know someone who is parting out a 1967 Imperial LeBaron with power front seats and I think I could get the...
