I would think if you can secure it to subframe connectors (if you have them) or something away from the exhaust/headers. I'm thinking of getting a set for my ride once I get to exhaust and I too would like to keep from drilling anymore holes if I can avoid it. If you do drill into the floor to...
After reading your comment on the 5th I finished the wiring and installed everything. Today, I finally got some of the other things on the engine done so I pushed it outside flipped the kill switch, sat in the car, turned the key a couple times to get fuel through the lines then all of a sudden...
Thanks sorry I haven't gotten around to it Til today I bought some new solder and flux. It seems to be working a lot better. Not sure what my old solder was for but I picked up electrical solder. Flows like water running into the terminal not puddling up like the old stuff. Anyways I finished...
Thanks had I read your previous post again I would have seen that:BangHead: oops. I'll drill a hole and try again here shortly.
Edit is there any kind of trick to getting the solder to flow down the hole and not puddle up at the top? I had one go perfect and the other didn't flow in just...
Hey snake oil. I went ahead and gave soldering them a try. From what I read I didn't want to cold solder so I placed the wire into the terminal 3/4th the way and heated them up as I added 40/60lead. Wasn't sure how much to put in as I didn't want it pouring out as I pressed the wire all the way...
Thank you, I see what you mean now. Never crossed my mind to do it like that. I know the switch is designed to take the full amps either way. 2,000 intermittent and 300 continuous. Doesn't say rating for alternator just super duty alternator post. But it's just a denso 60amp alt.
Thanks Ill give it another shot. I was afraid to have it up against it and pull away when I crimped it.
I'm using the ford solenoid to keep the big unfused wire to the starter from being hot. The other two wires (one to power lights/accessories and the other is the alternator which runs to the...
I'm wondering what size fuse would you put for the wire going to power up front? On the other side for my alternator I'm guessing something around 60-75amp it's a denso 60amp.
Here's how I've got it mostly wired. Seem right?
So I thought I disconnected the wire on the sending unit before I dropped the tank but when i pulled the tank there it was still attached to the sending unit... So my question is where does this wire run to? The piece on the sending unit is only about 6 inch long and I can't find the other end...
I decided to just get a Ford solenoid and piece it together.
So I got the solenoid and some 8 gauge wire. Figured that should be enough to run from the alternator to killswitch and run a line up to the factory solenoid on the firewall to power everything else.
All I got done so far was mocking...
Thanks Snakeoil24. I gotta say a lot of this is all new to me but I think I have a better understand after looking at a few diagrams. Don't know if yours is any different. I kinda came up with this. I have no idea if this will work though? Not sure about the alternator wiring but I figured as...
I want to make sure I got this correctly and getting the right stuff because I am still a little confused.
So I have: Battery box, 1/0 gauge weld wire, 4 stud kill switch, and MAD solenoid kit. That should be everything to get me going?
The MAD kit solenoid will kill the starter wire when not...
I'm going to go with welding cable. Found a place comes out to about 2 bucks a foot. https://www.amazon.com/TEMCo-WC0037-Welding-Battery-Copper/dp/B00LIB2W56/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1470627743&sr=8-16&keywords=zero+gauge+battery+cable Another 15 bucks for terminals. Now, I was looking at...
Had that problem with one of our vehicles it turned out to be the alternator wasn't putting out full charge. If I drove with ac off I had no problem but the extra power for the ac was enough to drain the battery. I'd have the alternator checked even though it's new it may be faulty...
I've learned some neat things off Marks site like making headlights brighter, who knew. So I've measured a few times I need about 20ft of cable...local supply shop wants almost 7 bucks a foot for 1 gauge iirc and its pink. I heard weld lead is cheap anyone gone that route? Seems like a lot of...
Thats what I am seeing most guys using 1, 0 or 1/0. Might have to order online.. I was hoping to find someone local but Napa was the only place I found today that sold it by the foot and the biggest they carry was 2g... I heard weld wire can break from the vibration of a car?
I ordered a Taylor aluminum battery box and now I need to think about cable. What size gauge is typical? I was going to have the positive cable hot all the time but I seen a thread on using a ford silonoid to prevent that. So my next question is what's the best setup? Safest too!
According to...
the ignition has a ring with slots on the outside take a flat head and tap it counter clockwise it'll unscrew releasing the ignition. Not sure on the wiring. Sorry, I just realized it's on the column. I don't know how they are held on if it's the same or not.
