The 400 is a good start for a stroker build a lot of guys were putting the 440 cranks in them to make them 451. I was looking into building the 400/512 before I came across my crate engine 440/498 for cheap. Good book I grabbed awhile back was Big block Mopar Performance by Chuck Senatore.
I can get 2-3" out of mine when I jack it up to about 80-90psi. I drove my "old" pair without air in them once and they wouldn't hold air after that...
Nice car, I know how you feel I bought my satellite in 2010 I was 18 at the time.
Anyways, If you want power then go that route at the end of the day you can return it to stock pretty easily. I would find a nice cam/intake/carb/header combo that works. But as others have stated the speed itch is...
I love purple but then again I am a bit bias as my 69' is purple... You can't go wrong with it. Unless of course you don't want to be the center of attention because you will be the only purple car on the road and it draws attention. But really any of your choices will look great.
Must be nice... My 318 gets 9-10mpg on a good day cruising... getting into it, thats another story... but the previous owner built the motor with a big cam, 360 heads and a 650edelbrock 4bbl... running rich to make up for the low comp... but it does make nice single line burn outs haha
Welcome, not familiar with 74's so i'm just guessing. Someone else who is experienced will probably know how to further help but anyways...
1. as far as smelling gas I don't know what to say, you shouldn't smell gas while driving maybe at idle but other than that...
2. vibration isn't normal...
Like FridayGt said, It makes me nervous if he's claiming it's a real Runner but provides a Satellite vin. If it's a clone he should say that, and who know what else he's trying to pull over on you. I'd let him know what you found.
I like my 318 if it was a big block i'd love it! lol only problem with mine is the guy i bought it from built it and put 360 heads on it but i don't think he got the right pistons because i only get like 10mpg in mine...
Very cool! I would love to have a car or even a beep beep! from a movie or famous owner. It would just be a cool feeling every time you'd get in the car. Or in your case every time you honk the horn :D hahah Btw nice looking runner.
If he needs to get rid of it i would offer him like $600-700 and work your way to a price. The 360 could be any year they all inerchange, someone correct me if i'm wrong. If your worried about that ask for the engine vin or look for it when your there then post it here or google will help you...
Doesn't look too bad. If you do get it hopefully your dad will change his mind when he see's you with it. You'll know if it's the right car or not when you look at it. I got my first car back in May. Spent 3 years searching and looked at so many cars before i saw this one and as soon as i went...
Welcome to the forum!
I don't know alot so i could be wrong but one of the cars i looked at had the vinyl removed and they had bondo around the rear window so i wanna say there is alittle indentation.
