Use a 143 tooth steel flywheel. Lakewood makes a aftermarket aluminum bell housing with both starter bolt patterns and accepts A833, and Tremec Ford style bolt pattern and uses concentric rings for different input bearing retainers. A 130 tooth flywheel cannot use a new modern starter on a big...
The studs are too long on these new/replacement mounts.
Remove from engine, cut the excess stud from mount face towards the engine block, the plates will rest higher up in toward the block and allow it to settle down in mounts on K frame. Had this issue last summer dummying my sons motor into...
Another thing to mention about fan clutches is the way they are stored. Can't remember which way you are supposed to store them, but if the fan clutch you bought was not stored "correctly" it will take some driving to reset/release it.
Always use a fan clutch. Chrysler developed these in the 1950's. The don't require as much power with a more aggressive fan. Thermal units will move toward lock up as unit gets hot, now if it's 5" away from radiator you are losing some of this action. Only cheap cars with small radiators should...
If you buy them and have buyers remorse message me and I'll buy them from you.
There now you can buy them guilt free and I'm not explaining anything about why I want them.
Mine had a dent in it where fork hit it in the junk car I got it out of. I shorted it 2 1/2" at home, moved the weight reward (it was in the 2 1/2") and it was good to over 100 mph. Lasted around 13k miles behind a 440 4speed. Only reason it was failing was the 7260 u joint caps were getting...
If it is the same as mine, can't remember the exact number. They use GM external adjustable points (dual) and the cap is for a 1957 Oldsmobile I believe. No vacuum advance so I would not use it on the road. They are built really well bushings and such.
That tach drive is kinda cool.
Drop the rear of transmission, 2x4 on center link jack under trans pan
Transmission extension usually about "18 long, and I usually add a 6" wobble extension (bulge in the square drive) to the end to allow socket to pivot. Tape the 2 extensions together so they stay together , nothing worse...
Most of the newer pumps have really crappy inlets where it comes out of the block into the pump and as it opens up toward the rotor separation. Very rough casting and irregular shape. I have been cleaning them up (die grinder) before I even put them on.
If you look at a original pump they are...
GM shaft comes out of the case horizontal.
Mopar shaft is of course vertical.
Cut off the GM u shaped lever and replace with one that makes the range of shift shaft and range of shift rod work together to get the full arc for all gears.
The rod from the shifter does not care if it is moving a...
I have a 833 OD in my Charger. I did not do a runout, mainly because I was trying to get the car together. Said I would get it later. Well 6 years and 16k miles it's still kicking. The clutch does chatter when cold. It has been oil contamination when front seal on the trans leaked, and it has...
