oldkimmer, I assume that you have the 'dog bone' adapter.
That will not extend the shifter to the rear.
B-body tail housings have 2 mounting positions.
The dog bone will place the shifter between the 2 positions, like so.
Look at the second picture, you will see the rearward mounting position...
I would think that the .450" lift cam is holding it back.
But, your combo works with the small valve setup.
Can a poly head be machined for a 2.02 / 1.80 valve set-up?
Manual transmissions require an oil with a API GL-4 rating.
The Mobil 1 SYN gear Lube LS 75W-90 has a API GL-5 rating which is good for hypoid gears, like the ones in differentials.
Do not use a GL-5 rated oil in manual transmissions.
Karl, I just had the same thing happen on my Runner.
Brake shoes were Chinese made - even with the star wheel turned all the way in they were still tight when the drum was installed.
Lucky for me a friend of mine gave me a bunch of extra parts when he sold his 73 Runner and a set of older Wagner...
@Al Alguire who just posted as a new member in the Welcome Wagon has lot of experience with high revving 440's.
His many postings over at Moparts are good reads.
Hopefully he will chime in.
His 64 is badass!
Here's a video of it.
540" Big block that spins to 7700 RPM's
Geoff 2, I hear what you are saying about finding some old lifters....
" if you want your FT lifters to last until the end of the driveway, find some 25 yr old lifters [ they are made of quality metal ] & have them re-faced."
The problem is finding old lifters - no one has them.
I was fortunate...
Roadrunnererh, your lifters are not as bad as mine were.
I posted this on my build thread.
If you look closely there are 3 of them that are not turning in their bores.
Remember these are solid lifters.
The one in the upper right - the 5th one down on the right column and the 6th one down on...
Matt, you would be correct - those are not 107's.
If cylinder #1 in the photo is at top dead center, then you definitely have alot of deck height that can be removed.
Here's what the KB107's look like.
