    Electric Fan Air Conditioning?

Brand makes a huge difference, I'm running twin Spal fans and can't hear them unless the engine is off.

    Electric Fan Air Conditioning?

No wiring kit necessary, I'd have to look at mine again but I know the fan relay is tied into both the temperature switch and a/c clutch. Runs as needed for cooling and all the time when the A/C is on, also used a fan controller.. not needed but it turns 1 fan on at a certain temp then the...

Overheats on the freeway but not when cruising around town?

When I first got my Charger running I had a thermostat sticking closed, the temp would climb until I pulled over and gave the thermostat housing a whack.. I'd climb back in an watch the temp dive back down to normal. After I replaced it it never did it again but now after 19,000 miles it's...

Overheats on the freeway but not when cruising around town?

I'd pull the thermostat completely out and drive it just to see what it does, quick easy way to tell if the system is up to the task. If everything is good it should run cooler than you'd want. Timing is the other thing I'd look into. Like you said, fans, shrouds etc don't mean anything if it's...

Why the obsession with electric fans?

2 years ago I was cruising down the freeway occasionally scanning my gauges as I always do and noticed the needle flicker, then again so I threw it in 6th and dropped the rpm's way down because looking at that gauge told me I likely sprung an oil leak.. likely saved my motor. Sure enough I get...

Why the obsession with electric fans?

So the fan was wired faulty and you didn't have a working temperature gauge to let you know it was getting hot but it's the electric fans fault?? Ok

Why the obsession with electric fans?

Why electric fans, that's easy. #1 at idle (traffic) you still get max cfm. #2 can be fit in tighter spaces and #3 they sure make tuning an engine much safer not having that blade spinning. I've also noticed all the threads related to overheating when using electric fans and this one is easy to...

Classic Auto Air VS. Vintage Auto Air

I used Vintage Air, no complaints. From what I've seen on here over the years everyone seems happy with both brands.

68 RR 383 Still Getting Hot

I went back and read his post, that's a good point and another reason to buy a quality unit. The unit I bought incorporated vents/passthroughs.. whatever you want to call them to address that issue. They have rubber flaps that work like check valves, at freeway speed they push open and allow...

68 RR 383 Still Getting Hot

What electric fans have you tried.. CFM's, shrouded, unshrouded, single, dual, pusher, puller? It's physically impossible for a belt driven fan to outperform an electric fan if it's sized properly IMHO. A mechanical fan is limited by motor rpm's so it produces the least cfm at idle where it's...

    cooling need more cooling.

I can measure it if you like but I'd say it's a 22" because it covers the whole radiator. The car is a 1969 Charger SE that came with a 318.

    cooling need more cooling.

It's ridiculously tight, I even machined a fuzz off of the power steering pump pulley but nothing rubs. If I ever redo this car I'm figuring out a way to move the radiator forward because they left almost no space for anything in these Chargers. I did this at the same time as I switched to a...

    cooling need more cooling.

I looked at all of them, the one I bought fit my radiator perfectly so I'm guessing I didn't have the width for this one.

    cooling need more cooling.

It replaced the belt driven fan and is mounted between the radiator and water pump. The reason I went with dual fans instead of a single fan is because of the water pump, a single fan won't fit in my car because the fan motor would hit the water pump.

    cooling need more cooling.

It took a bit of work to squeeze it in there but it works great, 69 Chargers have almost no room in there. I asked around on here and it seemed like around 3,000 cfm was the general consensus, it works.

    160 thermostat why

If the radiator and everything is up to the task absolutely. All to often cooling systems are just barely big enough to maintain proper operating temperatures at which point a 160 stat still produces 180-190 but only because the system isn't capable of getting the temps any lower.

    160 thermostat why

I can't believe people are still arguing this:realcrazy: O.K all of you that think the thermostats job is only to initially warm up a car (which MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL)... here's a test for you and Hopefully you live in a freezing cold climate. Take your thermostat out when it's...

    cooling need more cooling.

The fact that it stays cool while cruising tells you the fan isn't moving enough air although other things like your tune could be contributing to it. This also tells you that you don't need a bigger radiator just more air. I had the same problem, I was running a clutch fan with a shroud and...

    It’s not just Cold Case

I think your good, I'm running just 2, 10" or 11" Spal fans and mine doesn't overheat. Combined CFM is what matters, if I remember correctly I was shooting for 3,000 CFM but am a bit under that with no trouble.

    Thermostat or not

Absolutely! Motors run better fully warmed up, without a thermostat they may never reach operating temperature in cool weather.
