I used to have side exit exhaust, eventually the tips got dinged up so I replaced them and oh my word were the new ones annoying as hell. But if they're the same ones you had that's likely not your problem.
If it's mostly resonance that you're hearing first go over everything and make sure nothing is touching the car and everything is nice and tight. I've had pipes get smacked to where they were gently touching the floorpan and it gets surprisingly noisy, same with missing or loose hangers. Also...
Or Hooker Super Comps.
Same here, 1 7/8 Hooker Super Comps no modifying necessary although they were tight to the 727 pan when I still had an automatic in it.
I've found Summit brand parts are just rebranded quality parts.. so far. My Summit distributor is actually a Mallory. If you carefully compare you'll likely find their headers are identical to a reputable brand, probably the same goes with Jegs? These guys don't make their own and have a...
I have Hooker Super Comps, never had to remove them for a gasket change. Those are great gaskets from what I heat, I'm running the multi layer aluminum gaskets which also work great and can be used over and over again.
I made something similar but ended up pitching it, looked and sounded cool but I couldn't believe how often I drug them even tucked up close to the rears. Hope you have better luck because that looks pretty slick. We need a picture of the car with the exhaust poking out now:thumbsup:
Here's...
I don't know that muffler selection always eliminates drone? I had Flowmasters once.. bad drone so I decided on a traditional glass packed oval muffler for my current ride much like a Dynomax, no drone until I went from side exit to full length? Seems there's some science to it? I've had exhaust...
I originally built a side exit 3" exhaust with an X pipe then went full length with the same setup, the added length created a bit of drone so I'm going to add resonators... Might be a real easy option for you? They're basically a straight through muffler but from what I've read they get rid of...
Wow, didn't expect to see so much 3" hatred lol. I'm scratching my head on the whole.. to loud, sounds terrible and is hard to fit comments? I was on the fence with whether or not to use 3" on my 456 stroker but in the end I knew it would likely never stay at 500ish hp and being all stainless I...
I don't doubt that it helps with warm ups one bit, I say it's a horrible idea for the simple fact that you have a moving part that can cause serious performance problems mounted in the most hostile environment you can think of. Everyone of them I've come across are seized.
If your not going for 100% original remove it with extreme prejudice, tap the holes for pipe plugs and be done with it. Those things were a horrible idea, they basically choked the exhaust so the manifold would heat up quickly sending heat to the air cleaner. From the factory it would have had a...
Glad I stumbled across this, been thinking about switching mine out. I like long tube headers but I've yet to see a pair that doesn't hang low, aggrevating seeing how there's plenty of room!
Did it make much difference? Seems everything I read suggests putting them as far forward as possible?
Another member suggested the J tube... Interesting but will have to get under the car and see how much space I have. Pretty sure I can easily install either one behind the headers.
I'm looking into resonators for my car, out of curiosity I looked up the construction, they're just another muffler. Only difference that I saw was the tube is straight through with zero obstructions and minimal packing.
Looking to quite the interior down a bit and have been reading up on resonators seeing how my issues are rpm specific. As of now I have Hooker Super Comps and a 3" exhaust system using an X pipe that dumps out the back, mufflers are the typical oval glass pack (can't remember brand). I love the...
I bought the Pypes X kit, a couple straight sections and a few U bends and welded my own up all out of stainless. It's all mandrel bent stuff and when you do it yourself it fits how you want it to.
