Finally finished up the seats today. I had forgotten that installing seat covers borders on a contact sport (seems that way at 73 anyway). Legendary definitely makes a good seat cover. Biggest struggle was getting all the frames/springs back in good order and all square again. Still need to...
It does look like it’s pulled down a little at the scroll strips like it has a listing wire attachment there. I’m going to have to open mine up and see how it was done.
Thanks
Bill, yours definately look like they have listing wires just outside of the scroll strips. Wayne’s looks sort of like mine - flatter. Guess I’ll have to take one apart and see if the pockets for the listing wires are on the backside of the covers. Maybe it’s just the old, original foam...
Can anyone verify if the 66 bucket seat upholstery bottoms have listing panels near the scroll work trim that fasten down to the springs creating a mild bolster? If so, I'm suspecting that who ever installed my seat covers before I bought the car might have skipped that part of the...
Is it original, or is it an older Legendary cover? I understand that you may not know. I have ordered bulk material to replace a torn panel on a Legendary cover and it matched perfectly. Didn’t have to wait 10 months for the material either. But you may have to look for an upholstery shop who...
I made some minor repairs on my 67 wheel about 20 years ago and painted it with mettalic red single stage urethane. Now it’s far from a daily driver, and I don’t wear rings, so it’s pampered, but so far there isn’t a wear mark on it anywhere. Hardened urethane is pretty tough stuff.
When...
Whoever did my front seats last time used burlap but on top of that he used a piece of what looks like heavy upholstery fabric. I found out in removal that it’s really tough stuff, impossible to rip or anything. So I ran it through the washer and plan to reuse it on top of new burlap to better...
Looks correct from what I can see. The shifter arm has a dogleg to bring it over to the center of the console opening. You do need the big blister piece that secures to the side of the console and conceals the shifter mechanism. It’s a pressed board piece that I think Classic Carrie’s as well...
I stripped it off the arm rests of my 64 Sport Fury when I was in high school in the late 60s. Pretty sure I didn’t have anything at hand stronger than rubbing compound.
Actually your photos bring to light another mystery - the seat frames and springs on mine are not rusty at all. Even the wires in the bottom burlap are in great shape.
Sorry for that mess. Not much there for you to work with. But that black burlap padding does look a lot like my foam.
Pulled the covers off my bucket seats to replace and found this mess in the seat back of one of them. My first thought was someone dumped a container of graphite powder in it. But as I got it loose I realized it must be powdery black mold. It was literally pooled up like loose powder at the...
Thanks. Good to know about the video.
Jerry, those look nice. I think the last guys that did covers on mine cinched the center listing wires directly to the seat springs which pulled the center down to far. Yours look more correct and I’ll probably substitute heavy cotton upholster thread...
Replacing from bucket seat covers in my 67 GTX and decided the foam is probably a little marginal to reuse. In looking on line for replacement foam everyone seems to list 66 and 67 together. But the 67 has 2 listing panels that fasten down through the foam in the middle while the 66 doesn’t...
To bring a conclusion to this thread I got my carpet in from ACC and Legendary last week and this is what Legendary said was correct per their records. Not much change from what I have but I think it’s fine with the new upholstery. In the first photo laid the console side carpet over the floor...
Sounds weird but a lot of guys use Lemon Scented Endust on vinyl interiors. It doesn’t build up, it buffs off nice, not greasy, smells good, and overspray buffs off paint, glass, plastic easy.
Kind of tough to be certain but still thinking medium red is closest. I think the maroon is just a shade to dark although in direct sunlight it doesn’t look as dark.
Thanks R413 - those are good pictures.
Bill, if he finds anything on your car please let me know.
