The CH4B is 0.4" taller than the stock intake. The Performer in 0.5" Taller. The Holley SD is 0.9" taller the Performer RPM is 1.6' taller.
The M1 dual plane is the factory iron unit, but in aluminum. Other than the 22 lbs weight savings, there is no performance advantage.
I don't think the OP has told us much about the motor. Not sure what "prep" means. Used budget motor with uncertain history and fresh spark plugs?, or full rebuild with 10.5 CR and TF 240 heads?
Anyways. If it's stock-ish (280 hp), use the factory 301. Good fresh short block and heads, 224...
I’ve used the Holley SD on my 508. Peak power at 5700-5800 and pulls nicely to 6300. About the same size cam as yours.
It might not be the best intake, but it will fit under the hood and certainly support 600 hp.
I really like the 4327 and 4326 carbs.
To the OP, if you have the original 4327 (unless it’s a Calf. Car) and it’s not working for you, find someone who can make it work. If you don’t have the original carb, they are a bit of a challenge to find complete and rebuildable. They do come up...
With 800 cfm, or more. Bill's 600hp would mean that the 955 cfm FAST guys are making 710 hp. That's more than 15 hp, right? Thanks for pointing that out.
And, you're the one making it about Holley verses everything Carter and Edelbrock, not me. I personally like them all. I currently have...
I don’t know what the FAST guys are doing, but doubt that the key to their success lies in extrude hone. Also suspect that the cars are pretty light and probably puts most of the non-hemi big block cars (A12 cars), in the 650 hp range. All guesses.
I do know that nothing more than a little...
Only if you choose to believe the factory hp ratings. Most of the creditable evidence suggests it is more, even from Ma Mopar itself, if you choose to look.
Your point on the intake is fair.
Your point on the exhaust manifolds and carb size is generally wrong in the context of this...
I love the “850 is way to big for a 440” statements we hear from time to time.
A simple look at historic facts. In 1969, Mopar took a std 440 hp engine, changed nothing more than the 750 AVS for a Six Pack, and corresponding intakes, and the power output increase was tremendous.
Good to hear that you are happy with your setup. Sound like it’s running great.
That said, don’t for a moment think that you are not leaving meaningful power on the table. I get that for many, that’s not a big deal.
Well, I miss spoke. I do have a 3 1/2” filter, and I also have a 1/2” spacer between the intake and carb. That suggests that without the spacer, I could run a 4” filter element.
My air cleaner lid does lightly touch the hood. And my kick down linkage has been massaged and just clears the air...
I don’t know if anything fits with a 4” filter. A base that has enough drop to accommodate a 4” filter will probably be into your linkage.
I made a 16” x 3.25 or 3.50” work.
