If you look at the picture above you will see a round nose on the starter that part needs to fit into a matching recess in the bell housing. without that support the two flanges on the starter would see extra stress when cranking and will eventually lead to broken starter ears.

I saved it from Mancini’s website about a year or so ago.

that sounds exactly like the repop units probably read full with a full tank but will drop quick

only the sender needs a ground how much fuel you have in the tank? the new sending units are terribly inaccurate. If you still have the original sending unit i highly recommend you send it out to be rebuilt
