Are you saying you don't use any: 1- Epoxy Primer, 2-Self-Etching Primer, 3-Contour Polyester Primer- Surfacer, 4- DTM primer, or 4- 2K Urethane Primer?
No primer at all!

Just speaking from the paint perspective not on what was actually used in 1962.
If my final paint is going to be a light color, I use a light primer (white or light grey) and if the final is dark, then a black or dark grey primer. This is with BC/CC and it just means that I have to use less...
Not sure this will work for your application but maybe. Also, IIRC there was mention on how to slow the clock down.
