I'd go AVS2 and add the jetting kit and wide-band air/fuel gauge to tune. Gauge allows you to see what carb is doing, saves a lot of time and guessing.

Try heating it in boiling water to soften it. The first replacement grommet failed got another one from different company (forget who i ordered from) and it has lasted so far. Seems all grommets are not the same.

I would go with Edelbrock 800 AVS2 and take advantage of updated Carter, get a air/fuel gauge and the jet kit to tune it up.
