Well, found the problem. It was the pump(s) all along. I had several old pumps lying around and put one on and all is well. Thanks to all who responded.
Ok, so I checked the hoses while running - seem good. Checked flow in pump - hard to see, but I do see flow. In regards to bleeding - I jacked car up and while not running, cycled steering gear about 20 times, then while still having the front wheels off the ground, started the car and cycled...
Although this pertains to my 1962 300, I thought I'd put this out to you guys. The power steering works fine at speed, but at idle I have very little or close to no assist. I rebuilt a TRW pump previously because it was leaking, and it worked fine. About 1000 miles after rebuild, the no assist...
I stripped the threads on a strut arm once - it's somewhere around 100 lbs torque also. The culprit - the threads were lubed and that increased the torque, thus resulting in failure. Make sure threads are dry.
I have the pictured PS pump in my car. I rebuilt it about 800 miles ago. It worked fine until last week. I now have very little, if any "parking lot" assist. When the car starts to move forward, the assist returns. Increased engine rpm also helps. While driving, there are no issues. Could the...
I was having the same issue on my 64 Polara with the same caliper and clip system. The front end would clunk over irregular road surfaces and on hard braking. Drove me bananas. The issue was those caliper pad clips AND the tabs on the disc pads. Once I adjusted BOTH items, it was like the old...
Open your wallet and buy the complete kit from Bergman. After the unit is installed in your car, you'll say to yourself, man was that ever a good decision. So happy I did this.
You can always wait a while to save up the extra cash you spent upfront on this box to add "eye candy" to your car...
Purchase the Borgeson steering box and the kit that goes with it from Bergnan Auto Craft. You won't be disappointed. It will be like driving a new car. When you move the steering wheel, the car will move with you instead of wandering all over the road. One of the best upgrades I did to my car...
Do yourself a favor and spend the $10 on the safety clip from Detroit Muscle. 30 second install, very positive engagement and your done with it. Fooling with those clips, especially in tight quarters can be a real PITA. Ask me how I know.
Well, I upgraded to a Borgeson box on my ride (64 Polara). I purchased the complete kit from BAC, including the upgraded steering shaft coupler. Best money I ever spent on my car. I can now actually DRIVE my car. No unexpected lane changes either. No noises, lots of power assist, easy install...
My 64 has the following Dr. Diff brake parts / systems.
Front - stage 2 - 11.75 discs with 2 piston calipers
Rear - 10.7" discs / Cobra calipers
Manual 15 / 16 master cylinder
4 wheel disc brake distribution block
This is a manual (un-boosted) system
Observations - I bought this car with the...
