New/Reproduction Oil Dipstick Tube Installation Tips

I put a chrome dipstick tube in my 440 engine. It would start in but not go all the way to the ridge-stop. I worked on that thing for hours , just wouldn't go in that last 1/4". I finally figured it out. The end of the tube was hitting on the edge of the aftermarket oil pan. Ground off a...

    Lock up torque converter.

Since I am going to take it to a trans. shop to fix the leaks, and they will probably take it out, I may just see about putting in the lockup converter and trans. set up that is correct for it. That way I get a whole new set-up. Guess I will check that out.. Thanks all......................MO

    Lock up torque converter.

Having never driven a Mopar with lockup, I don't know what to expect. How much " slippage "do I now have with the stock converter? I may have to take the transmission out to fix some leaks, and thought that would be a good time to change converters. Better gas mileage would be a plus, but it...

Noisey tappet only on cold start up

My bet is , you have a lifter leaking down ..takes several hours. I don't think there are any lifters made in the USA anymore.. except for maybe a high dollar racing set. I expect even the " name brand" are China or Mexico. I had a machine shop do a full overhaul a year ago and I asked about...

    Turning a 383 into a real hemi?

I don't want to discourage you, but here is the reality. It is very expensive and hard to find parts for your 59 Desoto four door. Yours is going to take a ton of work depending on what your final build will be. Expensive enough to just rebuild a stock Mopar engine, let alone ANY hemi. I...

Rear diff packed with gun/wheel bearing grease.

I thought crap like this was over with several years ago. The sawdust trick used to be fairly common. Amazing that bearings lasted so long with just grease. I would like to listen in when you tell them about it. How could they possibly not know? In Panora? That's a small...

Replacement of gnarly oil pan - Ed's next mini-project

Good that you got a pan from someone you could ask questions of. I bought a 6 qt. pan off Ebay ( new) Looked great, had an internal slosh baffle. clearanced for the tie rod ends= idler arm---But , the cross link was nearly touching the pan.. What a PITA trying to increase that clearance...

    Axle bearing grease fitting

Yes, Ma Mopar had a little different way of thinking than a lot of the others. ie: left hand threads on wheel studs etc. As per the factory service manual, the grease packed wheel bearings should be cleaned and re packed with axle bearing grease on a certain mileage basis. That is on tapered...
