"Gauging" My Factory Coolant Temperature Gauge

That photo with the temp gauge about 1/3 of the way up is about correct for my parent's new (special order) 1971 383 auto Road Runner when it was new and also correct for my 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus 318 Auto which I purchased about 10 years ago. As I already mentioned in post #1...

Are All Factory 340 Water Pumps Aluminum?

I think a hodgepodge 340 I purchased a few years ago had a cast iron water pump, so I thought I would ask if factory only installed aluminum (1968-1973)? Thank you.

What Are You Using to Flush Radiator?

My '96 Dodge Dakota is overdue for a radiator flush and fill. What's recommended these days? Thank you.

    160 thermostat why

Who's delaying the warm up time with a thermostat? The thermostat speeds up the warm up time doesn't it? (just regulates the minimum running temperature).

    160 thermostat why

Not that it matters, but some classic Mopars came factory equipped with a 185 degree thermostat, which I haven't been able to find in the aftermarket.

Double Check Your Radiator Cap (for Coolant Recovery Systems)

The "science" behind the correct cap can be a little tricky to comprehend.

Do You Have a Source for Corbin Clamps (USA Made only please)?

Those for sale in post #2 will not be shipped to my location (Mexico). Year One has some listed but who knows the quality/country of origin? Not taking a chance.

Do You Have a Source for Corbin Clamps (USA Made only please)?

I like the factory look and I like the manner in which they function. Thank you.

    Fan/Radiator Clearance

I measured the crank pulley at 24" circumference while the fan/water pump pulley is at 19". Therefore, I figure the fan/water pump is running at a slight overdrive. No question here, just analyzing the parameters of the cooling system. Don't know if we have factory pulleys here and neither am I...

    Fan/Radiator Clearance

Everyone has their own opinion (may be talking about plastic fan flex, not the same with a fixed metal fan). Two from internet search: Shoot for about 1/2"-3/4" clearance from fan to radiator. The very important shroud should have 2/3 of the fan inside the shroud and 1/3 of the fan outside the...

    Water Pump "weep" hole

It was sitting out of the box, yes. You mean someone is taking up residence inside?

    Water Pump "weep" hole

I just noticed my new 8-vane small block aluminum water pump has the weep hole plugged from the factory (unless it is some kind of insect cocoon).

Have you checked the color of the spark plug tips?

Heating up on highway ?? 72 SSP 440

Maybe the torque convertor is adding a little heat as the RPM's rise on the highway-just a wild guess.

    Is It Just Me?

When I see an aftermarket aluminum radiator in a Mopar muscle car I can't help but cringe. I don't fault anyone for using one, I am sure they are efficient units and probably an improvement over factory original units. I just never have been able to get accustomed to seeing them in the engine...

"Gauging" My Factory Coolant Temperature Gauge

The '71-'74 rallye dash factory coolant temperature gauge only has two marks. Up to the first mark seems to be when the motor is considered "cold". Between the two marks seems to be considered "normal range." Anything past the second mark seems to be considered "overheating". That's how I see it...

    Restoring AC/Heater Controls

My Avatar is also my project car, what I will be calling a "Super Satellite". I have a '72 SSP repainted Bahama Yellow, interior done (brown/dark brown), now building the "Nascar" 305 de-stroked 340 (2.96 stroke), and then finally the Mopar '71 wind tunnel style nose and wing. Build thread...
