I ran the MP .528 in a 440 back in the day. I ran .018/.020 lash. I believe it was Dwayne Porter that recommended that?! It sounded like a nicely oiled sewing machine. I'm personally much happier with the hydraulic roller. It sounds and acts like a stock 440 with a mild cam...until you mash the...
I run a Howards .545 lift, 234/241 @ .050 hydraulic roller in a 505. Absolutely love it! It makes great power but has good street manners, too, and is super quiet. It's been in for over 7 years now and virtually no issues.
Lots of misinformation out there spread by people who have no idea what they are talking about! Everyone will tell you that you need a billet drum and bolt in sprag and that is absolutely not true!
If you have the HP and weight (easy to assume weight with an a body as there are tons of similar examples) the gearing isn't going to be all that critical with the stump pulling torque of a BB stroker. 3.23-4.10 gears are going to yield very similar results. Auto or stick isn't going to matter...
Absolutely! It's called math and experience. If you can't handle those, the Moroso slide rule (like Andy mentioned) or Wallace Calculator website is your friend.
Wow, was really interested in this until I saw the times.
"Best e.t. of 11.25 @ 121mph." seems to be a gross underperformer to me! This car should easily be running low 10's, high 9's with the parts described and the weight. Typical magazine underperformer.
It's not "boring out" it's increasing the stroke that gets you cubic inches. Never bore more than absolutely necessary in order to get straight, round bores! A nice thick wall promotes ring seal and makes horsepower.
For street use I would recommend a 4.25 stroke. It drops in, clears the oil...
Use housing ends either from an existing 8 3/4 or buy new from Dr. Diff. You can use the same brakes from the 8 3/4. I took mine to a local race shop, had a different ring and pinion installed and axle ends installed. I bought axles and a spool from Dr. Diff. It's a bit more work, but I got...
I have a hard time understanding the need for stroker kits and aluminum heads on the street.
With intake, headers and a cam, any well built 440 will have enough traction problems on the street that you won't be able to hook in a leaf spring car. (which 99% of our cars are!)
If you use...
I had an engine backfire with a 3310 and it blew the power valve.
Symptoms were that it would run way rich and not idle at all but at full song it was fine.
I love that carb and run it on all my street 440's and my 360 in the truck.
The kickdown linkage increases the line pressure and "forces" the clutches together in the transmission. (to greatly simplify it).
A non-working or poorly working kickdown WILL allow the clutches to slip and WILL burn up your transmission.
As others have said, make sure it moves the...
Maybe you won't notice a difference in shifts but Trans-Go includes things like a valve that you put in so fluid fills the coverter even in park (usually have to kick it in neutral for a bit with the stock valvebody if the car hasn't been run for a while and the front seal is wore.) You don't...
