We use a ported Street Dominator and a Demon 850 carb. Drivability is great and has been 11.1 @ 121 n/a @ 3,700 lbs. Once we got it dial in, I haven't had to mess with the carb in over 9 years! I had a stock SD on it and put on a ported unit and it picked up a tenth.
Ron Rhodes has one of the fastest leaf spring cars in the country (albeit in a Camaro). He has stated he has never seen an improvement going from shackles to sliders. Has been 1.03 to the 60 ft.!
A guy was using steel shot bags for weight in the trunk at Ozark Raceway Park. The bag busted and littered the starting line prep with all the shot! They had to cancel the event and scrape the track.
We use a factory electronic distributor with a recurve hooked to an analog MSD 6AL box The older non-digital units are stone reliable, have amazing spark and have a rev limiter. It also allows me to retard timing with a separate small box that plugs in. These boxes are all over at swap meets and...
I use an app called Virtual Dyno. It's surprisingly accurate! We plugged in all the numbers and on a 250 shot of spray it said we would run a 10.07. Car ran a 10.01! It's always been very close in predicting performance at different levels.
A neighbor with a turbo LS Chevelle was skeptical but...
Not too tough if you do 2x2 square tubing, cut open the front of the rear framerail and slip it in a bit before welding in place. Both the rear frame and the torsion bar crossmember are much thicker than floorpans and should be easy to get good metal to weld to. If not, I would re-think putting...
Very cool! Would recommend getting some adjustable shocks. The Calverts 9 positions work pretty well on the back along with some CE 3 position adjustable up front. Shocks make a WORLD of difference.
We don't exactly fit the FAST rules but locally run some Nostalgia races and true street stuff that requires stock steel bodies, no fuel cells, oe glass, stock style suspension. Lots of butthurt to go around, let me tell you! For some reason Pontiac guys are the worst! Runs 11.1 n/a and 10.0's...
I use Dynomax Ultraflows and 3" exhaust. Very quiet. I haven't tried pulling the exhaust but really doubt the car would slow down. Been 10.0 @ 133 with that setup.
We built a 505 with CNC ported Stealth heads. It has a Howards hydraulic roller that is .545 lift and 234/241 duration @ .050. With 10.4:1 it would run on the cheapest pump gas but I seldom did. We bumped it to 11:1 this past winter and it runs fine on 93 octane pump. Made 600 hp and ran...
We have ran 10.01 @ 133 in a 3,700 lbs. car with a stock block. No fill, no girdle and ARP main studs. A lightweight rotating assembly (Molnar crank, rods and Mahle pistons) and an rpm limit of 6500 is what keeps it alive IMO. That and sneaking up on the tune so you don't detonate. We pulled it...
I didn't get a breakdown, but most I've talked to said $3500-$4k. Cost to get there, fuel (not everyone runs pump gas), hotels, food and incidentals. Take a 5 day vacation and see how much you spend when you account for everything!
