If you use a sending unit/fuel pick up tube for a six pack or Hemi car, it will have a return line built into it. But of course, you still have to lower the tank to get to it.
Don't know why it wouldn't work. Not sure if you would then need a vented gas cap or not. I think the tank has a vent built in to it, at the front near the rear axle.
I would definitely put a solid motor mount, or a torque strap on there. I did. Don't remember what we did with the EGR stuff. Seems like it never was even an issue. Maybe someone had plugged it before we got it, or it was one that didn't have that feature. Put it together without a spacer, then...
I had a street dominator on my 451, and it worked really good. Not sure on the height, but I wouldn't hesitate to use one again. Probably the lowest height of any of the X-Type intakes
Put a 500 CFM Carter AFB on there today, that I had recently rebuilt. Wow what a difference! Fired up immediately! No flat spot, and starts up every time, great little carb. A/F ratio around 14 to 1 at idle. On the 750, it looks like the primary power valve is bad. Won't hold vacuum, or stay...
Yes I think I will keep it, and try to get it working properly. I think its jetted too rich, at 72 primary. I'm at 5600 feet. Stock is 70 pri /73 sec . That combined with the vac leak is messing it up.
Thanks! It has an A/F GAUGE, and showing 11 to 1. Sometimes 12 to 1. So will pull it off tomorrow, and work it over. Seems to be some play in the primary throttle shafts. May need new bushings, and could be a source of a vacuum /air leak.
That sounds great! Nice job. Is a 13.9 A/F Ratio what you want it to idle at? My 440 A/F meter bounces around 11 and 12 / 1. I'm going to take the 4779 Dbl Pumper off tomorrow, to see if I can lean it out some, and fix a Vac leak. Thanks
Running a 4779 Holley 750 Dbl Pumper on my 440. Seems to run rich, plus has a stumble right off idle. Probably in the transition circuit. Plus I can hear a whistling sound at times when I'm at part throttle. So I'm suspecting a vacuum leak. Runs fine at all other openings. It has a Performer...
The seat is where the needle valve goes into, to shut off fuel supply when the fuel level gets high enough. The main jets meter fuel flow to the venturi.
The little wire piece hooks onto the flat part of the float above the needle. When the float drops down to let fuel in, it pulls the needle down . Most carbs work ok without the wire piece. Fuel pressure should unseat the needle to let fuel in.
Does your tunnel ram on the 383 work well? I'll be putting one on my 383 with a 4.25" stroke, soon. A 496. I'm using 2 Carter 500 CFM carbs to start. May go to 660 Holleys after that, just for fun. I guess you are using the 5986 base, right? Do your 450 Holleys work ok on there?
General rule of thumb on a power valve, is that you want it to be about half of what manifold vacuum is at idle. So being that you have 12.5" vacuum, you should have a 5.5 or 6.5 P/V. I'm not surprised that you get a stumble at part throttle with a 2.5 power valve. It's opening way too late.
The 850 has the same size jets all around from the factory. I would go up 2 or 3 numbers in jet size on all 4 jets. Remove your front float bowl and see what size main jets you have now, and let us know.
The reason you have .015" clearance on the acc pump arm at closed throttle, is to prevent engine vibration at idle to cause the squirters from pumping in fuel. Any tiny movement of the throttle pedal is going to pump a little gas out of the nozzles. So the .015 clearance prevents this from...
You may want to richen up the secondaries. If it has a bog near WOT, then you are probably running a little lean. As I said earlier, I ran my 850 dbl pumper carb with 88 main jets all around and it ran great! Nice tan color on the plugs. 451 with 915 heads, headers, Street Dominator intake, 509 cam.
Hi, I sold that RR about a year ago. It used stock squirters, and a 2.5 or 3.5 P Valve. A lower number P Valve will lean it out in the sense that it will take more throttle opening before the PV opens. So it takes a little longer to open, when the vacuum drops off to that level. Adjusting the...
