Previously posted about my six pack motor partially eroding one lobe on a solid lifter cam. Had just gone to a stiffer valve spring on the Eddy heads that I put on it. So now after putting in a Lunati Roller cam, changing the oil and filter 3 times, the motor is running great! Took it to...
All other factors being equal, I really do believe the six pack set up is DEFINITELY going to out perform most single 4 barrels. We pulled the RPM intake and 780 Holley off my 69 RR, put on a new six pack intake and carbs, and went from 13.30 @ 100 MPH, to 12.90@105. So .4 sec and 5 MPH faster...
Lots of other stuff needed of course. My 69 RR came with a six pack hood, 440 auto, frame connectors, 4.11 gears, console shifter, nice solid lifter cam with adj valve train. So I just added a six pack intake and carbs to make it a clone. Then I just recently put on some Eddy Performer RPM...
You can get a complete intake/carbs set up from six packs to go in Albuquerque. There's also a place in Indianapolis, In that does the entire set up. I was lucky and bought a brand new one complete with air cleaner assy and all accessories. Got it from a guy here on the forum, and it has worked...
I think the STR had a couple different tops you could put on it. One for a single 4 barrel, and one for three 2 barrel carbs. I have seen pictures of both tops. When using the six pack top, you had to modify the manifold to make it (hopefully) distribute fuel better.
OK, I suppose that's why the STR type manifolds were popular back in the day. The Rat Roaster! Ha. I've heard that they are obsolete now. Fabricating an intake manifold sounds difficult and expensive.
Well that's good to know! Is welding and re aligning intake manifold ports also allowed? If this ever gets off the ground, I'll know where to take the Edelbrock heads for port work! The Summit site lists the 60917 NHRA approved head having an 82 cc combustion chamber. Does this head have the...
Looks as if an NHRA approved version of the Performer RPM head (60917 with an 84 cc combustion chamber) IS allowed in stock or super stock. As well as the MP 452A. Not sure how recently this happened.
Do they rate the motor at 390 Horsepower as the factory did? Or did they assign it a different horsepower rating? I think the Hemi's were under rated by the factory, probably deliberately! Didn't NHRA rate the Hemi's at a higher power?
Well I have the time and the car, but not the big bucks it looks like it would require to be a contender. Maybe we could get a group of six pack lovers together to create a package that would work. Interesting that Stage 5 heads are allowed, but not Eddys? But Eddys are allowed if you run a...
Does anyone know how well the six pack cars did, or can do in NHRA Super Stock? I am researching the idea of a 440 six pack RR in that class. Any ideas? Is there a chance that one could be competitive in todays world of hi flow 4 barrel intakes? I've heard that the six pack intake can't flow...
Also noticed that some roller lifters are available that pop up when the valve train is removed. Then you can change the cam without removing the intake. Has anyone used these type roller lifters? Do they work OK?
Looking closer at it, they recommend 4000 stall converter, or 4/5 speed transmission and 4.56 gears. RPM range of 3200 to 7200. This looks like too much already. And isn't advertised duration measured at .006"?
I am considering putting a Lunati Roller cam in my 6 pack RR. It's the 285/295 duration, 255/263 at .050". I am running the Performer RPM heads, 4.11 gears, 3000 stall converter. Is this too much cam for this combo? 10.5 to 1 C/Ratio.
Come to think about it, there is no hesitation coming off the line. Only when flooring the throttle from a roll. Maybe I should try opening the end carbs idle mixture screws a 1/4 turn.
As stated earlier, I get a slight hesitation when the end carbs open. I am using the stock yellow springs, and I really don't mind it. It's only a 1/4 second hesitation, if that. That's prob why they recommend the heavier spring, to slow the opening rate. But as lewt just pointed out, with a...
