i 'd like to see the coefficient of drag of the wagon vs 2 door. I bet the wagon is slicker, and would be more slippery with a deflector on the rear roof!

Don't bend the kick down shaft! I was also tempted, until I diagnosed the absence of the extension rod for the Eddie. E will sell you a proper short extension, but i made one from a sawed-off 1/4x28 bolt and similar, opposite thread tightener (is there a proper name for those ubiquitous tighteners?)
I would venture an aerodynamic guess: the wagon generated less drag than the 2 door. With a sharp cut-off, flow separation and turbulence occur, whereas the smoother slope of the wagon would generate less drag. Hence, Kamm-back everything, those cute venetian curved blind above the back of many...
I had an orginal 63 Fury vert...in 63, it came with a padded dash. My new/old 63 also has one. You might check the adverts from that era, as safety equipment, they would probably tout the value.

Great looking dash, much better than my '63. Not to detract, but...aside from optional seat belts, the only impact protection in a 63 was the padded dash.
