Good thread - I hope the OP gets it done with all this good info. I learned a lot by reading the whole posting. My first thought was - wait a minute I never had to have my X smogged here in CA - a 68. Then learned it’s 76+ that’s it’s required on. A 76 is still a classic vehicle. Kind of a screw...
Yes you’re right. I thought of that after I posted. SS will hold up much better with the piss water we have to use these days. What I’m seriously and deeply concerned about is when CA supposedLy goes all EV in 2030 and then the country supposedly doing so in 2035 - Yes you can still drive your...
Well that’s true - nothing convenient about the behind the license plate gig - but you have to admit it’s pretty funny when you let someone else gas her up and they are at a loss trying to find where to put it.
Just curious and I know - None of my business - but I have to ask - Why the heck would you want to do that?? If you do and are are taking a poll - I would vote for a trunk location. Just an opinion from a lifelong 68:GTX owner.
Hey bro - you have the hood - match it up with the six pack carbs and manifold. I did that to my X decades ago and never looked back. Yeah I know there’s no such thing as a 6 pack GTX as far as originality goes but I think you state that you don’t so much care - and it gives the car some more...
When I put the setup on my 68 it was mostly stock. Just had a little bigger cam but otherwise stone stock. The six pack engine I believe had - many things - than the regular 440 hp. I think they were rated for about 15 more hp only. I don’t see any reason you can’t put them on the 67, especially...
Mopar didn’t start putting on the 6 pack until 69. I put one on my 68 from a 69. Don’t see why you couldn’t put the set up on a 67. The only issue may be clearance with the hood. I used the 69 six pack hood as well as carbs/manifold. They’re sweet but temperamental.
I had a similar situation with smelling gas and no apparent reasons. Eventually we determined it must be bad gas after much searching. Car sat for a very long time with fuel evaporation. After running a few tanks of high octane thru it - seemed to resolve the issue. New rebuilt engine and...
I'm no scientist but I think the use of some of the additives like Race Gas - which is what i use here. But in California the premium gas is only up to 91 octane. I think at 98 you're still in pretty good shape. I'll let some others chime in that may have a varied opinion.
Well maybe that’s the going rate for well knowns to do the six pack carbs. Who am I to question - I couldn’t do it myself. Hope they run wild for you...
Mind if I ask how much you coughed up for the rebuild? I had a shop when I was wanting get mine rebuilt - a well known Mopar guy in MN - almost had a coronary when he said $600. I said $200 a carb for, those carbs is ridiculous. Had a friend do them for free. Seem to run well. But I’m curious...
I run mine with the mechanical set up and it goes like a raped ape. Not a track car - although it easily could be. Just not my thing. I have deeper gears with 3.91s. My mileage Is best guess at around 5-6 mpg. I have the 440 stroked to a 494 with 555 HP. Love the set up but the mileage is...
