It’s really none of my business so blow me off if you like - but I’m curious as to why you would delete the a/c on your baby. That’s the one thing I wish I had on my X that I don’t have. It doesn’t get hot and humid in Ohio in the summer?
Well I got the sending unit out of the pump housing and replaced it with a Borg Warner sending unit. Drove until it should have been warmed up and the gauge needle still only moves a short distance. Checked the temp at the stat housing with my laser temp gun and it read 190. I guess this means...
I think I just took what I’d hope was a minor problem and turned it into a bigger one. I bought a new sending unit and went to install it. Appears that the one that’s in there has been since the car was stock. Or at least the better part of the last 50 years. Tried to get the 1/2 out of the...
Where do you purchase a temp sending unit? Is that the one wire that goes from the water pump housing to the bulkhead that purple beeper is mentioning above?
Any way to fix those gauges? I’m not to swift with the elec part of the car. Are there wires running from the firewall to somewhere that I could double check?
This is kind of an add on to the recent thermostat thread. I thought my stroked 440 was running too cool so I checked the thermostat and found it had a 160 in it. So I popped it out and replaced it with a 180. Thought it would run a bit warmer. I have a triple cored refreshed stock radiator too...
I have a weird situation - I had a 160 in there and the engine seemed to be running too cool. I swapped it out for a 180 and now it runs cooler!! I think my gauge must be faulty. I bought one of those infrared laser temp guns but have not tested it out yet. What else could it be.... ?
Bizarre occurance for me on this subject. As I posted earlier I went from a 160* to a 180* expecting my stroked 494 to run warmer - it seemed like it was running to cool - via the stock gauge. The opposite has occurred as it’s actually running cooler. I didn’t have a laser temp gauge and was...
I paid exactly the same $$ to triple core mine and freshen it up on the 68 440. Runs very cool with a 180* stat in it. The weather has cooled off considerably in the past couple of weeks. Had it done by Toms Radiator in Anoka, MN. Looks nice and runs nice.
I buy as much as I can from Summit. Love their system and service. Even though I live in CA I still get pretty quick shipping. Not sure if they have a warehouse in the West but things get here quickly.
Try the Race-Gas - you can get it through Summit Racing - shipped to your house in 1 liter cans. My 440 is stroked to 494 and puts out 555 hp. See,s to like it just fine
I buy Race-Gas, an octane booster and add a pint to my gas to give me a better jolt from the 91. It’s cheaper to do that and a bit easier to deal with. It though.
That’s $13 a gallon - does your car take pump gas? If not that’s a pretty penny for fuel to go cruising around. But at least you can get it. Your 440 will love that stuff.
Good luck finding that! Or maybe you have that in Indiana - best we have in CA is 91. I only wish I could get even 100. They sell at a very very few stations for $10 a gallon. i
I did just the opposite. I went from a 160 to a 180. Seems as though the motor likes to be a bit warmer. Also have a triple core radiator. Besides the Ma Mopar FSM says 180.
