I never saw that in my 68 X and at one time had the entire inside all apart when restoring it. 48 yr ownership. Must have been an add on by a previous owner.
Even tho completely unnecessary it was a “want“ v a “need”. I had my X interior completely redone - That means every Interior component reupholstered in premium leather - I literally picked the hide myself in Santa Ana - Global Leather Supply - Work done by our Hispanic brothers in So Central...
I dont remember where I bought them but when the X was restored I bought the fuzzies pretty much lIke OEM. I realize that’s no help but it wasn't that long ago- so I believe they can be had. Obviously installation was the big issue - but they look right as rain.
Yes it should be blue and yes it is missing the door panel chrome. Not sure that’s a reason to run from the car. But I’ve never seen black where there should be a color. Maybe when he restored it that’s all he could find and it was too nice to try and dye blue. If it’s a nice X then is a nice X...
Not really caring too much about keeping everything pure stock I redid the GTX in all top grade leather. One of the best things I did. Loved the look and feel and sure got a lot of comments. It must have been fine Corinthian.... but don’t think it was an option on that line.
I used Dynamat in the GTX. Don’t know that it did anything exceptional. My car has a stroker in it too. I guess it quieted the noise level a bit. I never noticed it to be very warm anyway. Would I do it again? Yes
My 68 GTX only had one as well. Something tells me this is the standard. If you think about it your coat would partially cover the passenger side window making it a driving hazard. Not so with the drivers side.
I’m not a retro mod guy - but for those that are and for the car st the top of this thread I think that console will look very nice. Can’t wait to see pics of it installed. Nice workmanship!
Personal opinion is if they fit use them. I tried 69s on my 68 and they didn’t look right. I tried repops and they didn’t look right. I then searched the planet and finally found OEM pieces in two different states that I paid handsomely for.
The black pieces you’re showing there are not for the 68 GTX. The 68 has a defined bend to it not a curved look like yours show. They’re also a translucent black with a kind of ribbing on the backside. They’re very hard to find pieces. I think the ones you show there are 69 no sure.
