Best headers without breaking the bank?

Can’t argue with most of what your experience has been - but I will add something to my vote for Hooker Comp Ceramics - Both sets of Hookers I‘ve had - old school and new versions - never had to do anything special in regards to changing plugs - not the least of which would have been to have to...

Best headers without breaking the bank?

For those few that say “you have to beat the **** out of Hookers“ to get them on etc etc. I had two pair on my X and have never had to beat anything and that goes for taking the driver’s side off to replace that burned out starter. Never banged them on bumps in the road either - Hooker Super...

Best headers without breaking the bank?

Happy with Hooker ceramic - been good to me and reasonable cost.

    flowmaster mufflers

During restoration I replaced with Flomasters because I liked the growl. What do you mean by aggressive? I knew the sound I was looking for - IIRC I went to their website and they had a mechanism by which you could listen to the various sounds and choose that which appealed to you.

    That “tinny” exhaust sound

Not sure this will do anything material for you - but I bought Flowmasters - I want to say American Thunder. But as I recall they had sound clips for each of their models On their site. Maybe some others do to. At the time I was set on Flowmasters and trying to replicate a particular sound that...

    header - starter touching

THeres a million brands of minis. But they’re the way to go with these old big blocks. I have had several that have burned out due to heat. Finally went with a Promaster that’s resists heat soak and fits well with my hooker headers. But even back in the day with a full size starter the hookers...

    California Exhaust

Seriously doubt it. Especially given your tooling in a 59. This law is more designed for the rice rockets and very loud bikes. As others have said it’s unlikely cops will be ticketing those of us in the hobby cars. Short of having open headers I’m pretty sure you’ll be okay. As will most of us.

    California Exhaust

CA - They’re not technically illegal. Just using a little creative license for effect. They’re not to be given out until they can transition to the paper ones. Plastic waste you know. Then we’ll have another issue with the spotted snatch bird for cutting down trees to make straws. My point was...

    California Exhaust

Sometimes I wish I didn’t read these threads. Didn’t even know there was a new law about loud pipes. I do agree with the guys above that are saying it will be lightly enforced. Hope so. We don’t need anymore reasons for the cops to pull us over - aren’t there enough..... I asked for a straw...

    Asking for a friend....Headers?

I put new hooker competition ceramics on my 440 GTX and they, fit just fine at a price significantly lower than TTIs. TTIs are probably the best and also cost the most - but are not your only option. I have no dings or dents in my Hookers and life is good.

Good rr exhaust tips that won’t rust?

That’s a good price if they’re decent steel and chrome. It cost me more, than, that to,get mine rechromed. Same tail pipes.

    Flowmaster Exhaust system

I have Hooker Competition headers with a Flowmaster exhaust system. I also put Dynamat throughout the entire cabin. Honestly when I’m driving around the city it seems okay - but on the freeway when I’m droning on at a steady 3000 rpm it’s a bit loud. Too loud for my taste. I’m running a stroked...

Very nice under carriage set up Sonny. I like......!

    headers or factory manifolds?

I'm no expert - I got rid of my exhaust manifolds decades ago - gave em away back in the day. It just seems to me that $575 is a Boat load of cash for those things. But maybe for those that want the stock look and performance they get that much these days. I would go with the headers if that's...

    HEADER QUESTION HELP

When I restored my 68 GTX which has a 440 I bought Hooker ceramic competition long tube headers for around the $500 mark and they fit pretty well. Almost any of these headers are not like fitting gloves. TTIs are probably the closest - but you won't like the cost. I had a cheaper older set of...

Sweet! I'm sure they'll work just perfect for you. Let us know.

    Original exhaust manifolds or headers

I'm with poly - I'd go with headers for the performance aspects and keep the original manifolds with the original motor in the event you want to bring everything back to stock and matching one day.
