This is a 65...so what I now understand has a wider 8 3/4. But I have 15x8 TTDs 4.5 BS with 275 60 15s on the back, TTD 15x6s on the front with 205 75 15s. Every now and then it will rub on the rear drivers inside fender making a hard right turn.
Sonny - the reality is you need both. :) The dog dish look is killer/sleeper, but a proper set of period looking TT's would look AWESOME on your '63. Haven't you posted pictures of your car with them on before?
These aren't AR TT's but are a pair of 15x8 vintage ET mags, straight spoke, unilug I picked up. They need some restoration work, but I've always liked the style:
Pomona - I like those s200 a lot also. I should have bought some when they were reasonably priced as they are special order only now (15x8s) at $350+ a pop. You have quite the collection...
You've likely seen these pics before, but here's my "Torq Thrust" collection (warning Fords included):
15x8 4.5 BS w/275 60 15s rear, 15x6 205 75 15 front
16x8 w/235 55 16s all around
15x7s w/225 75 15s all around
I'm a huge fan of the vintage Torq Thrust look in 15". I like 'em so much they are on all 3 of my Vintage cars. I just ordered 2 more 15x8s with 4.5" backspace, which work well with the 275 60 15 tires, to sit on a shelf for a future project. This wheel and tire sizing fit my '65 Coronet and...
I'm a big fan of 15s, but I grew up when nothing else was available so 15s "look" right to me. 15s make the car look like the era it came from. That being said, I have seen some tastefully executed 17" combo's that "work" for me, but most of those are based on having a 60s style 17" rim (torq...
VW tires were and are a good option, but I wouldn't use cheep-o's, and I'd keep them at max inflation. I'm running 185R-15's on the front of my '65 Coronet. They are for TR-6s, European spec and getting hard to find. With US sizing they are 185/80/15s.
You can find them in trailer spec...
