My 78 motorhome 440 had a 452 head replaced at one point and the original head had tapered seat spark plugs. The other 452 was replaced with a car 452, with crush washer style plugs. Not sure all truck/rv engines had the TS plugs but its something I will definitely look at on any future big...
Too long of pushrods? Perhaps someone tried to get more giddy up from the motor with a higher ratio rocker & required pushrod change and took his buddy's advice on what to put in instead of actully measuring...or his buddy gave him the parts to try..
My guess anyway.
I have a 77 MH 440 & 727 trans. If it'd help I can snap a pic of the weights on my converter. I'd think you could easily find a MH 727 converter cheep enough ina junkyard to rob the weights from.
This can apply anywhere on the vehicle like fenders, but I am working on my engine. A few bolts were painted and chipped upon assembly. I know its easiest & proper to paint everything after assembled but sometimes things have to come apart again...
Curious what kind of secrets do you guys use to...
I am getting ready to assemble my 78 440 & noticed my heads have different spark plug seats. 1 has a tapered seat and one is flat, assuming 1 was changed at some point. They're both 452 heads. Can I get plugs to use on either or do they have to be side specific? Choices & advice appreciated.
Thanks.
My 440 MH engine had the insulation...at least what was left of it, as well as acorns, chewed up paper towels, sunflower seads, AND somebody's missing 10MM socket!
Heres a view of the fittings. The silver ones are male & female 3/8" JIC(first pic).
The next pics of the gold fitting is a large -12 female to show the inside flare. I think you need these in a 3/8" -6 but they aren't a JIC. Not 100% sure. The application we use those in are into main high...
Greg, if you know what vehicle the HB unit was designed for, can you buy the hoses for that vehicle to fit the HB unit and have a hydraulic shop cut the other ends off and put the ends you need for the pump on them?
I make hydraulic hoses in-house in our maintenance department and we use the...
If you have an original external balance flywheel from that engine and the crank was not changed out, it would have to be a cast crank. The amount of Mallory metal needed to zero balance the crank would be VERY expensive. I doubt it was zero balanced, because the builder would have also needed a...
2 things to point out here based on my own personal expierience with the kit I purchased with the 703.
1st-call Lunati. They beat a package kit price by $100 over Summit.
2nd-call Lunati. If I'd have baught the kit through summit, it would have came with the wrong springs and valve keepers.
I'm...
Out of curiosity, what size are the threads on the new links & what are the ID of the holes in the swaybar & mounts?
I saw the mod but just seams like it'd be a sloppy fit in the bar ends...
I have a summit hemi pan, and a 440Source hemi pan. Between the 2 side by side, the summit is stamped from thinner gauge steel, plus the 440Source is coated. Neither has been mounted to an engine yet though...
I know your trying to compare the 440S & MP pan, but just wanted to add this to show...
If the other side seams fine with the changes, why not swap the parts to & fro to verify its definitely the valvetrain/head on the problem side?
Is it possible one head had more work(machining & shaving) than the other? An old school builder may have done this, and your guy just cut equal...
I'm getting ready to clean up & re-seal the heads for my 440 and started scraping the VC gasket off. When I went to flip the head upside down to get the scapings outa the inside, this funny shaped dowl thing fell out. Looks like a restrictor for an orifice. Does it belong somewhere? No idea...
I picked up a running 19k mile 76' 440 out of an RV for next to nothing. I have several others, one of which is being built by a shop currently. I wanted to re-gasket this engine & put a proper pickup & pan on it as well as some other bolt-ons & paint & put it in the corner for a future project...
I've recently read several posts recommending reusing the original fuel pump pushrod as anything available on the market right now have problems with heat treating causing metal shavings in the oil. Measure yours & see what you have. Unused new stock pushrods are 3.225"
