I put urethane in the shackle area to stiffen things up.
I was very close to put urethane in the front eye too, then I did read a lot of articles/forum posts about how that bushing moves when stressed. And also opinions from people that had installed urethane.
...from all that info I installed...
I also prefer a touch of OS, though this comes from my younger days racing on dirt with smaller cars.
Though as you say, balancing it for both is prolly more work than its worth.
I had some fun with the Charger on dirt this summer and I guess its the winter time (Waiting to get out again and...
It was just a thought I had after the test-driving this summer and it was more if I had to choose.
When it was understeering it was on soft surface (dirt/gravel) and maybe that is a whole different setting?
When driving on asphalt I have yet to notice any over/understeer so maybe I am...
I know I saw a good thread about this, but now I cannot find it again of course. :)
My 68 Charger wants to understeer when pushed.
It has Eddy ias shocks, Hotchkis front/rear sway bars, Hotchkis upper control arms, boxed lowers, adj struts, new HD leafs, 0.96 Torsions.
What would I need to...
Yes, like I have said before, my car has the full package, power disc brake, sub frames, hotchkis everything, ias shocks, hd leafs, bigger torsions, etc etc and etc.
...and it is the most fun car to drive of all cars I have had the chance to try. Its like driving a solid piece of iron that hugs...
So, how did the schumacher torque strap work?
That one was also a success. It keeps the engine still and prevents the headers to hammer at the torsion bars at walking speed.
No more rattling sound hanging around in slow cruises.
Yep, its getting cold in the garage so its time to scale down a bit.
But in a couple of months I will be back with shim-tests, new wheel alignment and more driving.
I raised the front of the car again, started the engine. Now I had pressure!
Bleeding the system 10 times right/left slowly then 10 times really fast....checking the oil my heart sank a bit when I saw all the bubbles...remembering that post about red-line oil foaming....
....though I had gone...
I found the error and it is partly my fault for not noticing when I changed pump housing.
The valve was inserted first into the pump, then the spring.
Now fixed with spring first and then the valve (Now the valve with no shims.)
Time for a new test.
Oh and btw, I want this tool: C-3309B
Three things were added to the car: Borgeson box, pump and cooler.
The cooler is only a tube so that one is off the list.
The Borgeson box to be faulty feels like way too typical. Sending it over the pond, customs trouble etc etc.
That leaves the pump, I bought a restored one from one of the...
Thanks, how to check the pressure? I havent seen any pressure gauges that would fit inline in this system.
The box sucked the oil from the pump-reservoir several times, not sure though about return.
I will unhook the return line into a bottle and see if I get return flow when I start the car.
Steering was fine with the FF box (big center slop though) now the car is undrivable.
I was up in 60km/h with zero assist, felt very dangerous.
When the wheels was up in the air and before I filled everything with oil then steering was very smooth with one hand.
First test was quite the disappointment...
No assist at all, it was super heavy to take the smallest turn.
A small slop between 11:30-12:30 on the steering wheel.
....man, all this work...
How to proceed now? :(
I went with the Red line synthetic ps fluid.
It is recommended to use a synthetic oil with the Borgeson unit.
Just as I had bought them I found a post about someone having trouble with the Red Line foaming.
We will see.
Filled the pump in turns, turning the wheels stop to stop over ten times...
And finally the sector support is installed.
That was not easy but in the end when everything was tightened down (except the allens.) I could turn the bearing by hand. No binding here.
