I prefer carburetors over fuel injection because of their simplicity and i have a basic understanding of how they work. But i'm far from being an expert.
That being said, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this 3bbl vs. the standard 4bbl design? :)
I was always pumping 93 Octane @ Chevron Stations on my miami vacation. I have no idea if they are better or worse than others. :D
I was pretty much wasting my money on the 93 octane stuff since my 2023 Mustang GT Convertible rental car would've been capable of running on the cheaper 87 Octane...
So you're saying pumping the accelerator doesn't do anything?
I've been told to do this when i first got my cutlass 10 years ago and used that "strategy" ever since.
It worked but maybe just cranking for 20 seconds would've also worked.
I also think that's normal.
If my cars sit for a week they also won't start up by just turning the key.
What i do then is pumping the throttle pedal about 15 times, then crank it.
If it still won't start i pump the throttle another 5 times, then crank again. Repeat the second step maybe 1-2...
Electric pumps do not like sitting as far as i know.
My cars (carbureted with mechanical pump) also sit over the winter months and they start up easy after that. Just squirt some fuel into the bowls & up you go.
But if an electric pump is what you want than go for it. :)
I actually like the idea of running 1/3rd AVGAS 100L and 2/3rd regular gas whenever i can and otherwise running 100% regular gas.
But i probably need to make sure it works before pouring it in the tank because there are so many different opinions out there.
That would be easy to do but is this...
Because i have no clue and need advice. :D
Probably a good idea to mix 1/3rd avgas 100ll and 2/3rd regular gas in a squirt bottle and bottle feed the engine to see how it runs.
If it runs like crap i should probably stay away. Otherwise i should probably fill the whole tank with this mixture.
Well if i really can't switch between pure regular gas and a mix of avgas 100ll and regular gas without adjusting the carb that's a problem because i can't always get that mix but i do not really want to risk engine damage also.
This would pretty much limit my range, more than an EV does. :D
At...
Do other users have the same experience?
When you say "tweak the carbs" do you mean playing with the adjustment screws or putting in different jets and stuff?
I think the tank capacity is about 60 Liter?
In this case i could carry a 20 Liter canister with AVGAS 100LL for a 1/3rd AVGAS : 2/3rd Regular pump gas mix.
If i need more gas i will run 100% pump gas in between.
That's probably what i do.
Thanks!
What percentage is pump and what avgas?
Is 50:50 already to much avgas?
Under this circumstances i think i have to put a mix of avgas and regular gas whenever i start/end my trips and in between pure regular pump gas.
Might carry a canister with avgas and pour it in at the first tank...
Since england isn't part of the EU anymore i can't import lead additiv (not substitute) anymore.
But my 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 has no hardened valve seats (engine has never been rebuilt) and i'm not planning on upgrading to hardened valve seats anytime soon.
It might not be absolutely...
I think you should identify the engine first before doing anything else.
I dont know anything about his carb and i'm not an expert by any means but if it's coming off a 4.3l truck engine, how can it be to large?
