I had the same quandary on my 65 Belvedere. I could have gone original as it came with a 383 4brl 4 speed, manual brakes. manual steering etc. However I decided I could always put it back that way if I wanted to. So as you, I plan on keeping it and driving it. So I went restomod in function...
The fixed metering plates can be modified as described in the article with quick fuel metering plates then it's just changing jets from there. The actual CFM comparison would be 900CFM in the 6 in 4 barrel numbers. One benefit is the mileage in the 6 setup running on the center carb most of the...
I don't know why you think this but the 6 barrel set up is no more limited to a certain size cam choice than any other equivalent cfm flow. The 6 barrel set up flows at 1350 cfm, the center being 350 and the outboards being 500. In actual 4 barrel numbers it would equal 900 cfm due to pressure...
That's awesome! I have a 440 6 barrel in my 65 and it also starts and runs great pulls hard and very strong from 3500 to 5500. I had always heard of issues with these setups but mine is great. I realize it runs on the center 2 barrel unless it is pulling enough vacuum to open the other 2 so...
I have headman long tube on my 1965 440 with power steering, floor shift auto, Flaming river steering column.
Only fitment issues were adding a shims to the passenger motor mount and that's common. No dinging, stock large starter.
I have a 69 440 in my Belvedere and no cooling problems. My crank pulley is 7 1/4 and the water pump pulley is 7. I also have an electric pusher fan for summer days and any traffic issues.
Great work IMHO! You are brave for attempting this having never done it before. I would be scared to try that myself. I have never ever tried to weld anything and would most likely set the car on fire and burn the house down. Keep us up to date as you go!
I love and get many complements on my black steelies with dog dish caps. The president of one local car club put it best. "when you see that classic style it's either a taxi a cop car or race car, I love that look".
