I really like this post, I keep coming back to it, its like the black ghost that never went away. I'm guessing that it's in a warm climate that never gets snow or salt on the roads?
Beautiful car! My car sat on the lot at Chinook Chrysler until it was purchased in December 16, 1969 although its a 1970. Perhaps they knew one another? I've seen that car around town, very unique colour combination.
No that was factory. Nothing's been apart on my car, must have been a rare fluke. As I mentioned, the console door literally took me 2 days to align and it's far from perfect even still.
Get a product called Fluid Film, its like WD40 only thicker and stays on. Guys up here in Canada use it to prevent rust on cars and trucks from road salt. Do a little research on it, it's good stuff! Great looking Charger by the way!
1970 Charger with 14 inch Rallyes an Radial T/A's . 25 inches at the front wheel opening, 25/4 at the rear, and almost 10 inches at the rocker seam at the aft of the door.
This is a survivor car on stock original springs with 62K miles.
Hope this helps!
Well It's not perfect but I got the console back in and as straight as possible! I had to enlarge the holes in the door hinge to get the door to align a little better, I also did a little tweaking where the console mounts to the floor. Now the door doesn't hit the chrome trim on top and opens...
Thanks Richard, that's exactly what I did yesterday. I'll be reinstalling the console this afternoon and will post some pictures of a hopefully better fitting console and door!
I've got an original 1970 trunk may that I recently had out. I didn't see any marking or part numbers on the backside but I may have missed something. I could pull it out again and check if you know where I might look for such markings?
I got the console off and apart, I'll spend more time tomorrow working with it on the bench. My initial opinion is that the spring on the hinge is too strong and biasses the door to not sit straight in the console. The spring has slightly twisted the hinge, I think that is the problem. Thanks...
Here are a couple pictures. The gap at the front and back won't seem to line up with the door opening. Im going to take the console off today and see if it will line up without being mounted on the floor and then go from there. Also there are 2 small bumpers that are on the underside of the...
Thanks, how does the console come out? I can see a couple screws inside the console at the bottom and 2 on each side in the console, plus the trim screws on top and the shift knob (AT). Is there any hidden screws or anything?
I'm having some trouble getting the console door aligned on my car. The car is a 60K survivor so no changes to the floor pan or anything. I'll post a picture later today but I just cannot seem to get that door to line up no matter what I try. Should the console be removed to line it up and then...
