Unbolt the mounts. Place a block of wood under the crank pulley and jack it up with a bottle jack. Keep an eye on the firewall so you aren't pushing against anything.

New gears getting broke in will run a little hot. You need to make some short drives and then let it cool off in between. After a few cycles change oil again and add fresh additive.
There are no stampings by the dist pad on a 440. They are on top front of the engine ahead of the intake on the drivers side. You probably know this but others may not.
Get to know some car guys in the area and find out who the handy guy is. Maybe they can help you out in trade for you helping them out. Good car guys help each other.
As simple as these motors are to pull why wouldn't you just yank the damn thing?? Laying on your back having **** fall in your eyes sucks. You would have been done by now if you had done it that way.

The 4x4 trans and transfer have some good value to the truck crowd. Sell it. The small block 727 is sought after also. Sell it. Build that BB727 with the $$ from the other 2. Should be able to upgrade some stuff and have more room to walk in the shop.
So your starter is bolted to the housing but does it have any real support? Will you have issues?
You can do it all under the car. Drop the tranny out,pull the housing,pull the clutch,pp and flywheel.
Vacuum and or timing. Try turning the distributor while trying to keep running? Ignore the timing light for right now just turn it a little and listen for change?
