    Depends on your gauge. Aluminum sheds heat faster than cast iron so it should actually run cooler. I always run a 195 thermostat to keep the engine warm for peak efficiency.

    Lower rad hose spring needed?

    The spring is a good idea to prevent collapsing. If your old hose doesn't have one I use one from an automatic sprinkler head although they are a bit more robust than the originals.
