66 MOPARs - what's the scoop on engine numbers, transmission numbers, and VINs?

Perfect! This is the answer I was really looking for. 100% agree. Engine - I'll look for the date stamp on the passenger side of the block. If it's prior to 19 May 66 (for my car) I'll say it's original. Transmission - nothing to look for. The build sheet, VIN tag, IBM build card, and fender...

66 MOPARs - what's the scoop on engine numbers, transmission numbers, and VINs?

Hey guys, For 1966, is it true that if you have a 66 Dodge or Plymouth and are trying to see if the engine and trans are the same ones that came with the vehicle originally, you won't find a number matching on the engine block, trans housing, and VIN? I've looked through the threads trying to...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Yeah, that was never a thought! I actually have a different thread basically asking “what’s wrong with this picture?” so getting info like this here is fine and dandy. This thread was trying to decode exactly what the fender tag and VIN are saying. Many thanks for calling out what you see as...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Perfect! That’s what I was trying to find. I wasn’t buying the green color as being correct. It’s relatively freshly done so I don’t have any plans to attack it to correct it but, if my investments can come back around and I get a burr up my butt for correctness I understand now what correct is...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Okay, so I’m back at it. Yes, the fronts rub only on the chrome trim but I can pull the crank away from it (for the most part) as I crank it over the trim. Less than ideal. Yes, there are very thin black plastic washers but don’t know that they actually do anything to help. Curious if I can...

I’m out and about. Will check later to see.

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Excellent. That’s what I was wondering. And yes, that’s backwards to me.

You’re very astute. They do rub… Now I have another mystery to solve:bananadance:

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Really?! Dang it. Hmmm… Do any of these pictures taken just now help?

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Right. The upholstery is accurate to me. It’s all the green that I think is inaccurate. According to all I’ve found, everything I have that’s green is supposed to be a gold, citron gold and or white. I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t have put in white carpet in but I’m just guessing on what...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Yeah. I visited it and got some answers. Just trying to find out exactly how the inside would have looked as built. Don’t see green as an interior color option for a gold 66 Coronet. It’s in great shape and looks fine. Just trying to determine accuracy.

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Absolutely! 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 | E63 | Kissimmee 2023 | Mecum Auctions This is the car I bought and am trying to learn about.

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Wow, okay. Didn’t expect to find out the car was built for sale in Canada! Or to learn that SO numbers can match other cars. Thanks!

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Thanks @dadsbee We’re in agreement that the car didn’t come off the line with a green interior (although I didn’t know it for certain when I started this thread) but I’m still not clear on how it should look to be accurate. According to the pocket sales brochure it can come trimmed inside in...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

I’m really trying to solve for the green interior. I know what you mean about ZZ1. I’m okay with it just being semantics between the sales brochure and the paint chip sheet. But green interior parts for a ZZ1 paint might be the wrong answer for my car. Trying to learn what it rolled off the line...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

I figured out where I read “Citron”, it’s on a sales brochure. What’s odd is that this thing doesn’t show any green colors (like mine) available for the interior. The options supposedly were Black, White, or Citron Gold. If true then this could mean that the green interior I have in mine is...

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

Ahhh! I have a little chrome speaker knob on the bottom of the dash. Maybe that’s some sort of option they had? It’s got speakers in the rear deck.

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

I had heard or read “citron” somewhere for this car as well, can’t recall where. So that’s the color of the vinyl! Perfect. A little more solved. P was probably the method of annotating it as premium or that it’s for a 500. Doesn’t look like they actually call out 500 anywhere.

Is there a good 66 VIN and fender tag decoder?

So I think I have decoded most but not all. Top Row (of small letters): a6 = console b4 = bucket seats d6 = unsolved u1 = sold car (someone ordered the car this way) w6 = unsolved Middle Row (of capital letters): AB62 = 383-4bbl C5 = automatic transmission R1 = 2 watt AM radio SO Number 519 =...
