    1964 Polara overcharging

I would say its up to you. once you remove cluster you'll see first hand the wires and its a yes or no at that time. I would say if you can get proper terminal ends so you can reuse the oem harness connectors give it a shot, same goes for engine compartment harness (s) 1 engine 1 headlight. if...

    1964 Polara overcharging

I would bypass the factory ammeter. just connect the wires to complete the circuit. the ammeter might be on its way out. 16 -17 volts way too high. easy enough to by pass ammeter to test. When testing wiring harness you are disconnecting the wire from the alternator and other items etc when...

    Voltage regulator install

Where did you buy it from? The autozones here are somewhat questionable to say the least

    Voltage regulator install

Are these any good? I get a little nervous with stuff from AutoZone. I had bought one at the Indy show a few yrs ago..literally lasted 2 weeks shot craps, went back to old school VR and no probs other than a slight flickering of the lights at times

Flickering dash and exterior lights on 64 fury at idle.

old points style regulators have a tendency to do this. You may want to look inside and make sure points are clean and adjusted properly

    1964 Polara overcharging

The ballast is for ignition, and depending on if its points or factory electronic ignition will determine ohm resistance. I am at a loss here being half a world away. I would get the factory service manual and look at the wiring schematics really close. I would ohm all the wires in the...

    1964 Polara overcharging

Have you unplugged the engine wiring harness at the firewall and examined the terminals for signs of corrosion and overheating? You may want to make sure terminals are clean.. I would take your ohm meter and start checking resistance at the bulkhead connection and where the other end connects...

Ignition switch for 64 B Body

Also try Standard ignition products.. I think its made in Mexico now. I put one in a couple of yrs ago, and I think box said Mexico. They used to be made in Chicago back in the day

    1963 Fury voltage regulator location

Make sure you have it grounded good. Also make sure you have proper ballast for your points. sometimes after market ignition do not require ballast and guys will gut them n put a jumper wire inside to get full voltage.

    1963 Fury voltage regulator location

Correct, that is where the voltage regulator goes. Do yourself a favour unplug the wiring harness from the bulkhead connection point, look at the terminal ends and make sure they are clean no corrosion or sign of melting.. Buy some electric contact cleaner douse connections and get some...

    1964 Polara overcharging

megaparts.com has a wiring harness for around 200.00 US. wow on cost to check alternator. I highly suggest you find a CD copy of the 1964 dodge factory service manual. You get that and your life will be sooo much easier. trust me.

    1964 Polara overcharging

I would seriously consider getting a new reproduction engine wiring harness. Some of the wires look questionable, plus age is working against you. Did you disconnect the aftermarket voltage gauge? To rule that out if its bad? Megaparts.com I believe might have a wiring harness for you, both...

    1964 Polara overcharging

What kinda of voltage regulator. Old points style or a new micro chip style regulator? Anymore because a part is new unfortunately does not guarantee if it will work properly. I as well as others here have been a victim of poor quality parts. Make sure its adjusted properly. Looking forward to...

    1964 Polara overcharging

If you have old school voltage regulator, it may need to have points cleaned and adjusted. They can do things like you are experiencing, just a quirk it happens right now. I've had a similar problem in the past, I was able to clean and readjust and viola 14.7 charging.. just the infamous...

    Need RELIABLE dimmer switch.

Ernie brought up a good point about dvm. Just because a cable looks good on the outside, the inside can be loaded with the green gunk of death. A few yrs ago I had a Honda Nighthawk, charging systems in those were marginal at best. I was cleaning cables up and noticed at the one end where the...

    Need RELIABLE dimmer switch.

Bad grounds on headlight harness will cause you grief, as well as a bad battery ground cable to motor and ground strap to firewall from motor will complicate things. if you havent done so, go buy a can or two of the sprayable electric contact cleaner. Wurth is a good brand. Your floor dimmer...

Gas gauge problem - 65 Belvedere

Again sorry for your loss. Another thing to look at in his records is if he bought and installed a new repo fuel sender in the tank. If he did, that is more than likely your problem..aftermarket senders are not calibrated correctly to oem gauge in dash.
