I'd definitely would crawl under the car and look at the transmission and see if whomever swapped from the 361 to the 318 left the oem cables in place. Ive heard of guys putting an aftermarket shifter in the console so they have the oem interior look. Hopefully this is the case for you it will...
What kind of shifter do you currently have in the car? Is it the column shift with the selector cable and park cable? Or did the previous owner put in an aftermarket floor shifter? If that is the case, then the transmission year is kind of moot point, other than possibly the rear mount. You...
A low grade rubbing alcohol 70% in a spray bottle to cut the grease and muck. It will evaporate fast especially if you use an airhose to assist drying.
Comp = junk... Kern the same thing happened to me, but the casting flash was so bad that if the cam slid fore and aft say .040 the flashing on #1 exhaust would actually snag intake lifter as it rotated. had to send back to comp and they dressed the sides up. That was last comp product I will...
Steve , have you taken a propane torch (unlit of course) and directed the gas along top of intake where it meets the head, and around carb base to see if for some weird reason you have a hairline crack in the intake, or a leaky gasket?
I hate to see you rip into all kinds of things, only later...
Looks like an early B body shroud. There are 4 little offset brackets that bolt to side of shroud and other side goes to the capsulated nuts in the radiator housing itself .
I took mine up to instrument services in machensy park by rockford. He rebuilt my fuel sender to 3/8s upgraded my clock and cleaned and calibrated my gauges. Converted my amp to volt gauge. It was reasonable.
Is the rear an original 64 or has it been changed out to a 65 ?
If its a 64 they are a royal pain to set the clearances on the outer bearings, shims are usually needed. Not sure where you'd even find them nowadays.
Highly suggest getting a fsm for the tapered axle setup.
When I've seen the motor mount get installed wrong if you unbolt the trans mount from cross member it would either one be somewhat stuck when you try and jack up tailshaft because of excessive tension, or two when you jack tailshaft up it would spring one way or the other. When you jack up...
Here is a cheap test for drive shaft balance. Mark the back of the driveshaft up about 6 in from the rear of the back ujoint. Then place 4 marks around driveshaft at this point. Take a hose clamp, place it so the screw is at on of the marks. Slowly accelerate up to where it starts to vibrate...
This happened to me once, I had a driveshaft made for a car new everything, I take it out and I had a slight vibration. Not bad but drove me nuts, chased my tail and I took it out and found another drive shaft shop, sure enough my "new" driveshaft was out of balance, the 2nd shop instead of only...
What you need to do is jack the car up and once its level put a 2x4 on the jack pad and gently jack just the trans up paying attention to trans mount. Even though you poked at it with a screw driver, I personally dont do this because you can take a questionable mount and push it over the edge...
As mentioned check your trans mount. Also how are your leaf springs? Does the rear end sag quite a bit? These 2 things can throw off your pinion angles enoug to give you grief.
Even though you've balanced your tires, you could still have a bad one, once the weight of the car is on them it loads...
