Valve cover gaskets 440 cork or rubber or something else?

I went back to felpro cork on recommendation from the forum and the key is inch lb torque wrench to prevent overtightening, which is really easy to do. Not a drop on aluminum heads with OEM baffled valve covers. I reuse them after solid lifter lash check.

Oil ratings, API classifications and oil integrity

The SN classification is just newer API standards to keep up with the changes in the industry and extended drain intervals. I wouldn't use anything SN in a Mopar with flat tappets but the new formulations are far superior for your modern daily driver. I wouldn't use 30 year old oil in my new...

440 source ftw! the source one looks really good, I would like to try those.

Attention 1970 Fresh Air Hood Owners Needed

that wont work in practice with this manifold because the engine needs a bit more clearance to move/vibrate while running, but at least you have a reference point. any manifold shorter than that will be good. nice project!

Anchor engine mounts from Summit Racing. MADE IN THE USA !!!

I use solid mounts but would love to go back to rubber isolators if the quality was there. Last rubber mounts I had were Korean and promptly failed. I'll check out summit thanks for that info.

Anyone else varmit and bug proofing your b-bodies?

Dryer sheets definitely work against mice for long term storage, but the smell is pretty awful to deal with for humans too. I just keep the car driven on a regular basis these days.

Attention 1970 Fresh Air Hood Owners Needed

Sorry, just saw that. Assumed big block with a 70 air grabber. Almost any other small block intake will work, big block is a very limited selection. That does not look like it will clear as is but you will find out soon. I've used a hoist to install a hood when I didn't have help btw, but the...

Attention 1970 Fresh Air Hood Owners Needed

Yeah in that case you will have to consider another intake. I use the Holley street dominator single plane on an RB block with n96 hood, great performance and low profile.

Attention 1970 Fresh Air Hood Owners Needed

If you want to run a regular round air cleaner go get a drop base from summit and it will fit. A real air grabber base won't fit with that intake. I'd rather have the performance of the intake rather than the OE grabber base.

    Is RTE still in business?

The classic industries voltage limiter is complete junk, have to use RTE part.

440 w/ AVS stumbling at cruising speed.

It's probably just needing some slight tuning for cruise. With an Edelbrock carb take the air filter off and take the metering rods out. There is a four digit stamp on it, first two numbers are for cruise and last two are for WOT. Check the metering chart for your carb and see what it is set...

Electric choke on an AV2 explanation

Just hook up the choke to keyed power and set the choke with one pump before you crank the engine. It will start immediately and open when warm. The Edelbrock electric choke works pretty well, but I don't use a carb choke even if it's cold. It would have to be 20f or something for me to have...

Looking for advice for cold starting 318 engine

Nice troubleshooting! We've all been there, just have to take one step at a time. If you have an original fuel tank I would try to drain it and clean it first and also check the sending unit for the pickup screen. I had a similar issue with stalling and clogged fuel filters, I got a new tank...

1970 RR air grabber information HELP??

@RJRENTON can you help on this one? My 1970 n96 solenoid is located near the fusebox on the dash frame, not sure if this is stock location as it's been bypassed for decades on my car. I operate with just the air grabber switch but have been thinking about getting an aftermarket solenoid to get...

    Oil pressure gauge options

I prefer mechanical oil pressure gauge they are generally more accurate, and definitely better than stock. Biggest risk is tube failure and resulting spindletop oil geyser in your car. Take precautions like coiling the tubing if it's copper to prevent a failure from vibration and making sure it...

383 runs lil ruff when warm

all of the above, choke could be not opening completely you can check that with the air cleaner off while running. accelerator pump may not be working, or float height too low. put a pressure gauge on the fuel line. a plastic inline one 0-10psi from mr gasket is fine. edelbrock AVS needs a...

    Cam question for 67 GTX

Man that doesn't sound good, more like a typewriter than a solid lifter sewing machine. I like the solid cam sound when it's lashed right, music to my ears. The lifters will tell you when something's off.

    Cam question for 67 GTX

I use PRW 1.7:1 adjustable rockers on trick flow 240's. Most folks recommend at least one step up in cost like comps pro magnums but I like the PRW just fine. I do check fairly frequently to make sure the lash doesn't change, they may be more apt to lose adjustment than a more expensive rocker...

    Fuel pump recommendations…

I like the Carter style quick fuel 110gph, it doesn't need a regulator and is easy on pushrods. 30-360qft is the small block Chrysler part number from Holley. Light spring for about 6psig fuel pressure. I like mechanical fuel pumps better, simple and it will shut off when the engine stops turning.

    Cam question for 67 GTX

Ye olde Mopar performance .528 solid lifter cam with EDM lifters might work for you. Easy to adjust, works well with manifolds, good vac. Valve lash check becomes routine and after break in you don't need to adjust that often. Keep an eye on them and keep the cam oiled with a zddp hot rod oil...
