Yep, Molasses as well as White vinegar will do the trick.
Found this ax last weekend when I was out metal Detecting in the woods, it's an old camp ax from the 1800's.
Soaked in vinegar, then White Vinigar and finally molasses. Scrubbed it with a brass wire brush as well as using my Dremel...
Spent a wet raw dreary rainy day in the garage tackling the other side of the firewall. As the area is much tighter to work in, used a small spray bottle with lacquer thinner in it. Really worked out well to spray/soak the black paint & continued to use my Dremel brass wire brush to scuff off...
Hew guys, will be back at it this weekend and need some pics of 68 Chargers firewalls to get a sense of what was body color and what was not. I think the bolts were not body color & were natural but need to verify. Also from what I've seen looks like the master cylinder boosters were all...
While I'm in the process of removing the firewall paint I'm already getting ready for my next project to paint the master cylinder black. Were they flat, satin or gloss?
Thanks, guys, for the input. I spent a lot of time searching the web with various google searches but never found a post or video that showed using lacquer thinner. Many sites just said use this, use that...etc but never showed any before & after pic's, or how they achieved the look they were...
Excellent results with Lacquer thinner, green scrubby pad, toothbrush and Dremel tools (wire brushes & 180& 280 buffing pads). I'm halfway there and am very pleased with the results.
Well tried the goof off spray as well as rust-oleum Professional Grade Multi-Purpose Solvent, no dice. Still searching for a good striper that will get rid of the topcoat but preserve the original paint underneath.
Was a nice day today, so tried a few different options I found online. There was a video from Eastwood about how there were doing the same as I to get rid of top layers of paint to get to the orig. layer. They used pre-painting prep, so gave that a try felt meh about it, then found that someone...
Thanks guys! Definitely not looking for perfection but looking to have it look better than it does. in some spots it will flake off, but other spots seem a bit thicker.
Gonna stop off by an automotive paint store I've bought supplies from in the past to show them what I'm looking to do. This...
Hey guys. Looking for some ideas how to remove the Black paint someone did way back in the day, to get it back to body color. I tried a wire wheel on a dremel, but the stuff is pretty thick and or baked on. Was thinking of using a rag soaked in zip strip to hopefully wipe away or loosen up...
I bought a quart of the paint for the engine, as I was only top coating the area's I could get to with the engine in place. As far as the valve covers & oil pan, I'd say buy 3. I primered both and did 2 coats. You'd probably only need 2 but better to have a 3rd just in case.
