The coronet 500 would not have had an orange 383/4bbl motor from the factory, the 383 in the coroent 500 would have been rated at 330hp so would have been painted turquoise, only the 335hp motors were orange.
Steel rims painted black with either just chrome lug nuts or dog dish caps and raised white letter tires. Will give your car a more street brawler look IMO. ;)
Word of advice to get every dollar you can out of the car is detail detail detail! Clean the car up to within an inch of it's life, paint, interior, engine bay, under carriage, even use SOS pads on the exhaust pipes to clean them up best you can etc. Get it running and starting easy, try and...
25 years ago when I was looking for one for my Coronet I had a heck of a time finding a decent one, most had hood pin holes or damage to the nose. Eventually I found a clean one with nice hood inserts, think I paid about $350?
But current value I don't know, if I was looking today I would...
You know what I never really noticed the rad until now after reading your comment. When I was restoring the car I did not know what size radiator it came with since the rad support was hacked and mostly missing, so I ended up just going with a 22" unit. Now I see from this pic that it most...
Pics that came with my 68 Coronet 500 Convertible when I bought it....some time in the 80's.
And another change to it...was still wearing the lift off hood and side scoops when I went to look at it.
I've seen plenty of 68/69 B-bodies with pistol grip shifters and never heard any complaints about hitting the dash. So I'd think as long as your shifter mechanism is in good shape..not all worn and sloppy...then you shouldn't have any issues.
Wow what a great story and a super cool car...love the colour combo!
If the fender tag is as rough as you say be very careful with it especially of you don't find a build sheet. If you want to try and clean it up don't sand or grind away at it, use electrolysis to clean it up, then you are...
When I put the fender turn signals on my old 68 Coronet 500 'vert I had a bunch of original lenses, bulbs etc but none worked and/or broke when trying to get them apart. I finally ended up using the mid 70's mopar wedge turn signal lenses/bulb and wiring and just filed them down to fit the 68...
I always thought they needed to be in the forward position so that they would be somewhat protected by the small splash shield up inside the front fender nose.
Is it a stock cam in your new motor? Could be you aren't building enough vacuum, should still work but might take several minutes to fill the vacuum reservoir canister and system.
The old school artisans who could repair and bring these types of panels, and materials back from the dead are getting fewer and fewer.
When I restored a 68 Cornet 500 convertible back in the 90's there was no repro trim parts so had to find a decent set of lower rocker mouldings that were...
No sense buying a car you know you would ultimately be unhappy with.
So was it a factory column or console shift? And was it coded for a dana rear axle?
Proper nuts, bolts, clips and others small parts can cost a small fortune to track down and acquire if lost during the disassembly and moving of the parts over the years. I bought an entire 4dr parts car just for those small pieces when I was restoring my 68 Coronet 500 convertible years ago...
I agree with the others, hard to put an exact number on the car with unknown condition of the rest of the parts. Metal work is expensive and so is paint, but I'd want pics of the metal work to verify that it was done properly, or you could end up with more trouble down road.
But 20K for a...
Parents had a couple "Vettes" and one day my mother noticed the motor in one of them making an awful racket...we had a look and found that the crank had broke diagonally from the front of the crank back through the harmonic balancer but was staying in place. Parents decided was not worth fixing...
