Thanks, I appreciate all the comments. I found a Dayco 17400 that fits fine. This is an AC car and there is a pulley bracket for the AC belt that changes the PS pump adjustment slightly. I'm guessing this is why the 9390 belt was too small. Thanks again.
I'm trying to fit a new PS pump belt on my 318 Poly. Gates shows it as a 9390 which is 39 3/8" but it is a bit too small, maybe 3/4 to 1". The next Gates size up is 2" longer and I can't seem to find a 40" belt. I know there are not a lot of Poly builders here but any suggestion will help.
Thanks
Agreed. I used the Joe Gibbs Driven "Break-In" oil in my POLY as per a couple Poly experts. As @69Bee says change the filter than change the oil at 400/500 miles.
You guys who know these new engines and computer systems amaze me. I am in awe of what you know. I packed up my tools and quit the business when GM sent me to Tarrytown to learn their 'new' C3 system. Nice Charger.
Not sure I agree with the 'white elephant' tag you put on Polys, but I too love mine. Also, wasn't that much more to build a Poly than a 340 or 360. Except, of course for the headers, $900 from TTI, and try to find a nice iron 4 brl intake. The fun part is how they fill up the engine bay and...
Conclusion: My own fault.
With the help of a friend who knows these engine quite well we talked about where the oil could have gone and were able to piece together a quart here and a quart there, finally coming close to the 3 quarts missing from the engine.
In all the confusion of trying to get...
727. Clean and dry. It has to be a problem somewhere in the lifter valley or returns. The engine was hot tanked, old school, but the shop may have missed something.
Yes. No oil to the heads so there's no oil trapped up there. But I believe you're correct. It has to be topside. Possibly the lifter valley.
This is a 318 Poly that has been bored .040 and a 4" Mopar crank installed. So anything is possible. Also, pulled the bell housing cover and everything is...
At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, which I'm not, and opening myself up to public ridicule, this is what I've found... so far. No oil.
As so many here have pointed to the pump and/or pick up, and @dvw 's post about the clearance issue at the #5 main bolt, I decided to drop the pan...
Thanks but no fluids were put in the engine for the time it sat. The engine was hot tanked and completely rebuilt so I’m guessing that all the oil passages were cleaned upon rebuild
There are all kinds of discussions regarding the differences between the 318 A and 318 LA engine blocks. I needed to replace my pan and found different pans available depending on the vehicle. Some parts are interchangeable - timing chain cover, water pump - but I'm not sure about pan gasket. I...
