Making a template for a hood scoop with studs

I'm not speaking for Larry at Sled City but what I believe he is trying to say is this. I've made a very crude diagram (below). As Larry has mentioned in his earlier post, the scoop should sit about 1/8 of an inch +/- from the back lip of the hood. On most scoops there is a bracing stud (see...

Making a template for a hood scoop with studs

Right. You did a great job on my scoop and I’m sure BanginGears appreciates all your info. If anyone knows how to mount these scoops it’s you.

Making a template for a hood scoop with studs

You’re correct about the crooked studs. I had one that was crooked. I compensated slightly when drilling the hole as the bottom of the stud was slightly inboard of the top of the stud at the scoop. That stud was placed in the hole on the hood first and the other just dropped in.

Making a template for a hood scoop with studs

While mounting one on my '66, I placed some blue tape on the hood where the scoop would sit. Then laid the scoop on the hood, studs down. Took hundreds!!!! of measurements from every angle to assure it was straight and square on the hood and in the proper location. Taped down the scoop so it...

    66 Drums to Disk

Problem was, when bolting the wheels back on the rears would bind to the point that the car would not move, pushing by hand as the engine has not been finished. I’ve done enough brakes in my time to know when they are adjusted properly, and they were. The high spots were quite prevalent. A lot...

    66 Drums to Disk

Thanks. Your opinion is what I was looking for. I did the disc conversion. Probably just a mental thing but I’m glad I did. Bad thing is I completely rebuilt the rear drums with Rockauto parts. Had to machine the drums and file high spots off the shoes - put some blue tape on the shoes to find...

    66 Drums to Disk

Jerry, not to sound like a smart ***, but why would auto manufacturers all switch from drum to disc so many years ago. I understand what you and others are saying but if drums were as good, if not better in racing situations, why would the switch ever have happened? I would honestly like to know...

    Fastest Poly cars?

A while back I had a conversation with a very learned friend about MOPAR engines and specifically POLYS. The following is what came from that conversation. Please know it is not meant to disparage or denigrate any other brand or engine design - I've built many Chevys in the past - or anyone's...

    Fastest Poly cars?

If I had a dime for everyone who told me to yank out that boat anchor and drop in a 340. Sometimes you like just building something different. Agreed, no speed parts and lots of money to build. So what. Want to go fast? Build something else, OR build a 500 hp Poly. Ive heard all the negatives. I...
