    Is this 68 440 QQ1?

You state that the first letter is the body color and second letter is the roof color, and that sounds logical to me. BUT, my 68 GTX fender tag paint code is WU2, but my car is Frost Blue body with a white roof. Wonder if the fender tag stamper goofed or was it the painter.

74 Charger: are new repro $499 bumpers worth the money? Or is rechroming the way to go?

I have done both and been satisfied with both. Rechroming in my area is about double the cost of repops. Wait time on rechrome is 6 to 10 months. My deciding factor is "how original do I want to keep this car." Of course I am very close to the AMD warehouse and have no shipping cost in sheet...

What grit to sand fresh paint with....gezzzz

Did not know there was such a thing as a nib file, will get one. I did the taped end razor blade and cut the nib down best I could and hit it with some 320. Got some paint rolling but did not clog the 320 so I went wet sanding then and that began cutting pretty good. I cut down to the high build...

What grit to sand fresh paint with....gezzzz

Guys, was shooting some single stage solid color, white, and got a bunch of runs. Im sure it was operator error but second time using this new gun, don't like it at all. Any way, I have sanded out runs before on clear coats and used 400 and up , then buffed out. But have never had to sand fresh...

priming car with epoxy primer, new at this

mopmusc, I m just a novice painter at best, so still much to learn. Question, why do you sand epoxy primer? I have never, I may sand down to the epoxy coating. Are you just topcoating over a finished, sanded epoxy?

priming car with epoxy primer, new at this

I use a lot of Omni epoxy , it seems to be the best of the few brands available here. I like to throw in a bit of reducer and use a 1.8 to 2.0 tip, seems it helps with a smoother finish. And it still is available in about 4 colors. Of course what he said, the closer to bare metal you get helps...

I was told to fix bubbles in my fairly new top get a hypodermic needle and load with glue, Super Glue?, I don't know, and work the air out and glue in.

    Prep for epoxy primer

Many folks, including me, do my final block sanding with 400 grit. That is considered 'too scratchy' to some serious painters. The belief is a sealer smooths out those scratch swirls left by the 400 grit. I have used both, a sealer and epoxy thinned down to sealer use, with good results.

High build primer, what's your preference today...

First impressions of using the Kapci primer is that it is NOT a high build primer like the Mar Hyde. But, it is the easiest sanding primer I have ever used. Started on it with 240 grit and prolly could have started with 280, sands very easy. I looked to purchase more Mar Hyde 2 K and have not...

High build primer, what's your preference today...

Using a gray high build will take some getting use to. Using the 'vanilla" colored Mar Hyde over the gray epoxy primer always lets me know when I m cutting close to high spots and ridges. Gray on gray will offer no such boundaries.

High build primer, what's your preference today...

Thanks. I have moved to a new very small town and slowly been meeting car guys and meeting new folks. A local here who paints much more than me suggested I try this brand Kapci, said he really likes the stuff. Prolly the heaviest gallon I have ever picked up so I know some thick stuff for...

High build primer, what's your preference today...

Guys, I've done about a half dozen cars now and since Im self taught I consider myself a novice at best. I've worked from advice from others and have made improvements in my efforts. I have used this Mar Hide K 2 primer for my last two projects and have learned to work with it. But, new formulas...

    Just Got Bumpers Back

Lesson here to us all, if you have rechromable cores and CAN hang on to them, they will be of value to someone in the days/years to come. I had a member here give me his usable core as he bought AMDs that were available then and even though it cost me a $100 bucks to get it here, it looks great...

    pin stripes?

I would venture to say the majority of cars for all the big three had dealer added stripes in the sixties and early seventies. Large profit margin for little effort. Do you have info on any stripe/kits added at the production plant that did NOT have an RPO code available on that model built. Of...

    AMD bumper info

Bought my AMD 68 GTX bumpers last year directly from AMD and I guess they were in stock. As you may know all their research and development of replacement metal is done at their facility here in Georgia, but all production is done in Taiwan. Its a mess over there as well as here. As the China...

Looking for photos of UU-1 Frost Blue Metallic color - 1968

Here is some photos of my 68 with factory Frost Blue Metallic , vintage aged of course. As you can see the front end was wrecked and repainted many moons ago. Not sure how many years the car has sat out in the weather. Been trying to get that color to grow on me when its time to paint, but I...

    Recommend an epoxy primer

Guys, I admit I am self taught and know nothing other than what I learned from car mags and others who had experience with automotive paint. But, I have never thought about sanding epoxy primer. I normally use it over bare metal or rusty metal that i have clean and sanded best possible. I...

    Recommend an epoxy primer

Can't comment on SPI, have not used it , yet. In my beginning days I was advised to use PPG brand epoxy primers and since have tried two of the cheaper brands Mastercraft and Transtar, and PPG wins over them hands down. But will seek to get my hands on some SPI asap......

    Vinyl top replacement

Depends, I guess. I have not replaced a vinyl top yet that I did not remove the glass and cleanup/repair/repaint the pinch weld area. So, yes, it all came off and out. Now if your planning to replace and leave your glass intact you prolly have trouble trying to dig thru the sealant to get all...

slimt, Bro, some of them Sata guns listed in my OReillys refinishers guide book sell for over a $1000 bucks each, geeezzzz, tell me , even you pros that paint for a living, can they justify paying over a grand for a paint gun.....I mean is there THAT much of a difference . I would bet a pro...
