Greg/Dwayne....
This has been a great thread. I will likely never put A/C in my '68 Ply-mouth even though it gets hot as hades down here BUT this is a stellar reference if I (or anyone else) ever need to do it to another car.
Thanks guys:thumbsup:
Going by fuzzy memory here, but I could swear on those brass adapters that come already installed, the passenger side port had 1/8" npt female so I used a 1/8" to flare adapter which you can see sticking out in the picture, to catch the steel line coming from the transmission. The driver side...
Make sure you have the timing and fuel mixtures on point.
I don't have a part suggestion but being a performance engine I would go for as much fan/cfm as I could fit in there and remember to upgrade the electrical system accordingly.
Thanks for the comments guys. And just to reiterate, these are both well-functioning radiators...the CC might have a few more installation quirks but they've never given me any real trouble. I don't think you go wrong either way.
"Which radiator" questions always seem to come up. So, just for informational purposes I thought I would share a recent comparison between these two brands.
***I am not intending to 'bash' or 'plug' either brand, I have no affiliation with either***
Just trying to provide some (hopefully)...
I see you've discovered the fact that thermostat temp makes no difference. While I'm not a Cold Case fan, (full disclosure=I have one in my car) they do work well. I use the 70-up MP shroud and it bolted right on, with a factory 7-blade fan and Flow-Kooler pump. 10 to 1 505", 4000 stall, 600+hp...
We just went through this on my bud's '35 truck project; he didn't like the A/C kit's included hoses/routing either so he bought some hose for mock-up, then had a local shop make new hoses in the exact lengths he wanted...came out nice and wasn't too bad price-wise.
I thought the whole point of flex fans was, the blades "flex" and flatten at higher RPM thus eliminating drag and freeing up a little power....but you guys are saying they cost power? I've never used one, just curious..
A few guys here have used those. If I'm not mistaken one of them is @threewood and he's reported it to work well....and he be in Arizona where it be hot!
I had decided to get one but then got a very good deal on some new un-used parts from a local friend, including a Cold-Case still in the box.
I used to but I don't anymore, because I noticed it never made any difference for me. Sometimes I knew there were air bubbles because the temp would spike a few times on a new fill; other times it would be fine from the git-go. It was never consistent with whether I drilled holes or not, so I...
Here's the 180. Summit lists it as for small-block Mopar but they're the same size.

They have other temp ratings too you just need to be sure it's the 2.5" dia thermostat, the descriptions can be a little vague..
I tried a Tuff-Stuff brand high volume pump and it was no better than a stock unit. On hotter (90+) days my engine would climb to thermostat temp fairly quickly, then keep creeping up and eventually plateau at about 205 and sometimes a little closer to 210. A little hot for my liking. Even on...
